what could be better than bags and bags of torque,no noise and just a battery and an electric motor to worry about

Being able to fill up without waiting 4 hours.

The new battery prototypes so far take 35-40min to fully charge. ;)

Edit:

H2/Electric bikes are the future, the thing that sucks about it is that you won't have that nice after market exhaust. But instant power, double torque and less emissions in the air is worth the sacrifice. :)

The Mission RS charges in 1 hour on a standard charge.Granted that's too long for touring etc, but perfectly fine for Sunday spin.

The main thing is, it's getting better much faster. Charge points are popping up slowly.

It'll be at least a decade until it's feasible. Especially when bikes like the Mission RS are something like $50K at the moment...

An electric bike would be just the job for me as I don't have to use one apart from fun.
And just think. You could have USB exhausts. With decent speakers in them, load up your favourite exhaust mp3/flac sound and away you go. There should be a way of linking the sound to the speed.

I mean. How hard could it be?

I'd have an electric bike now, no question. Having felt the pull of a decent electric car, I want that feeling on a bike, it is really insane- just maximum drive everywhere. I was on the verge of ordering a Brammo, but early-adopter doubts led me to the 2015 S1000RR instead.

Personally I wouldn't miss gears- we only have them to compensate for the poor torque delivery of the combustion engine. When a drive unit can spin from 0-x000 rpm and deliver maximum torque across the entire range, then you don't need gears.

Battery tech has a long way to go, but it's viable today for cars, and bikes won't be far behind. When a vehicle does enough miles over a day for general use, and recharges within the hours when we can't be out and about because we're sleeping, then it's ready for the market.

I do appreciate that it's different, scary and new, and most of us don't like radical change, but I'd also say until you've been in a half decent electric car, by all means be suspicious, but don't dismiss the technology!

ain't they developing graphene batteries? that charge in seconds

sure, i mean we still don't have a reliable way of actually making graphene in meaningful amounts yet but they are theorising and using tiny fragments for all sorts of research.

The LS-218 Lightning is $38,888 USD and I believe its faster than the Mission RS, it also takes 30min to fully charge. The distance on 1 charge is 100-200miles depending on riding style, I believe 100miles is whilst being on track and 200 miles whilst riding on public roads.
so still completely useless for day to day stuff.

i aint waiting for 40 mins at a service station...
30min*, 100miles on track and 200miles on public roads.

The exhaust bit, the bikes will probably have speakers which will replicate any sound you want. So you can have a sound of a bike from 1940's, but still looking like a modern supersport.

Absolutely- I can envisage putting in my in-ear monitors, dialling in the sound of a 1990 YZR500 and zipping around feeling like Wayne Rainey, meanwhile microphones front and rear mix in the sounds of what's going on around me, and nobody else has to put up with any noise. Perfect.

Except half the point of the sound is so the general mouth breathing public don't run you over.

That's average 100 miles at highway speed. So a steady 60-80mph max. So hooning it you'd probably see what? 50-75 miles tops?

Also 30 mins to charge on a DC fast charger or 120 minutes on normal charger
