*** Show us your bikes! ***

That mayyy be so... although the Germans are quite impressive... good enough for me & I seem to have something of a preference for German vehicles, given both of my cars are also German... odd, as the language drives me nuts! haha...

I think it's the attention to detail, it leads to some really nice design tweaks and touches that someone only notices if they are looking :)

I was quite tempted by an R1... but they're too small for me... if the S1000RR was any smaller, it'd be too small.

Busa was high on the list... but I wanted more nimble than cruiser.

The GSXR and Fireblade are aching for a refresh... so it really came down to S1000RR or R1 as I fancied something new new :)
If I had the money for a S1000RR, I would probably buy it over an ducati or mv augusta purely for the reasons you stated. But in terms of reliability I still stand by my statement, same goes for cars.

How tall are you? I'm over 6ft1 (186-187cm) and most sportsbikes do seem too small, although GSXR is apparently bigger than it looks and is very light.

BTW You made the right choice, busa is ugly... it reminds me one of those guys who are 40 tan themselves, go to gym and eat steroids after that they go out on Friday night to a pub and try their chance with females aged 17-24... :p

The new R1 is sexy though, looks so much better than its older model, that refresh was needed tbh. I always thought that the R6 was the nicer looking sportsbike from Yamaha, I still like it... but that design is ageing now.

As long as it's the wife and not you! :p

+1,

5'11'-6'... probably a bit over 6 with my boots on... so vaguely similar size.

I only ever see teeny weeny men on R1s... now I know why :D

Shame though as I think the new ones are stunning, love the extra gizmos and the sounds from the crossplane is one of my favourites.

However, I think the ride quality of the S1000RR is better, especially on French back roads (which are wayyyy worse than UK B roads) and so for longer trips it'll be that bit nicer among a few other things that swung me towards the BMW.

I'm not a big fan of the Busa looks... but I prefer form over function... I'd take the sillest/strangest/worst looking thing out there if it provided the biggest grin.

Of course I'd rather have both ;)

Torque on a busa is an experience every biker should experience tho, IMO :p

S1000RR was a good choice, I never liked Busa... there was a time when there was a massive hype about it. I still thought it looked like a motorcycle version of multipla :p

Form over function? But when you walk towards your bike and you look at it you should be enjoying it in that way as well not just the function. Although I can imagine having both is the ultimate, but unfortunately we can't have everything. :( But S1000RR is still fun with its launch control, right? It certainly does look sexy.

What was the previous GSXR, how did you kill it?

Thanks guys,
It's a 12 plate, I know they aren't the most reliable but I love KTM styling. I'm not too bothered if it breaks either as its not my only form of transport.

Police around here don't usually pull you unless they have a good reason too so the L plate should be fine.

My first bike.

Edit

They don't look bad, but do yourself a favour and buy something Japanese. Learn on my mistake...

It's going up for sale next week, as a car I want has popped up and since winter is coming I'll wait till my A2 and then buy something that doesn't take 13 seconds to get from 0-62mph (the car is 7s 0-62mph :D)

Form over function?

Busa is the opposite- function over form, it's ugly as sin in order to get round some of a motorcycle's inherent aerodynamic disadvantages.

Having said that, you can't see it while you're riding it, and who cares what anyone else thinks!

Great first bike, KTM have great style, they always stick out and you know what it is before getting close. How many miles?

Yeah i really like them. It's done almost 9k miles.

Resize the img first before you get banned and sell it before it breaks... They aren't cheap to repair and its not unusual for them to break!

BTW Also replace those tyres, they're dangerous in the wet!

My stator after just 6k miles (I've done 1500 miles since I bought it)

When it comes to cars i have only ever owned Japanese but there aren't any Jap 125's that i like the look of, that's why i went with the KTM.

I aren't really bothered about the reliability as im not dependent on it and if/when it breaks i can repair it myself. It is quite embarrassingly slow but i will probably be looking to do my full license next year anyway.

it might be fine though, just a one off thing of it burning out, they revised the stators on 2011 models onwards I read

I like the style of em myself, but its no good picking style if you never get to ride the damn thing haha

Also most cars cant see you either when your going 170+ mph. :p

When you have to wait nearly 2 weeks for the parts its not really fun especially since the season is nearly finished...

Yep... the car is a jap though. I'm going to test drive it on tuesday, I've a car license so that's not an issue for me.

In my case the car will hit 62mph 7 seconds quicker than a 125cc, I can also go on the motorway which makes life easier especially when you're coming back home at night nackered.

I had a conversation with some guys on KTM forum who had 50% Japs and 50% KTM's, they said they aren't reliable and that the quality isn't the best out there. But they still somehow like them as they're different, still better than ducatis. But I want reliability and personally I like the looks of the Japs.

Anyway its nice, warm and cosy in a car, no need to put my power rangers gear on. :p

Picked this up last Thursday - a very nice birthday present from the wife. It's my first bike having passed my test in July :)

2009 Triumph Daytona 675, 7800 miles and absolutely mint...I'm loving it...need to take some pics with my proper camera as my potato doesn't do it justice.
