*** Show us your bikes! ***

This has been my pride and joy since Apr last year when I passed my test. Great first bike very forgiving but willing if you know what I mean :)

Sagalout, it's a twin cam, 2011. So far so good! Had a good 40 mile round trip today, and travelling 100 miles tomorrow. Really looking forward to it, despite the windy weather here. The biggest thing I notice over my last bike is just how soft the suspension is. Hitting pot holes no longer hurts everything. I love the look of the panniers on yours, touratech aren't they? Need to get some for mine.

4T5, thanks for the link. I'll bookmark it. I didn't realise just how much I needed a comfortable bike. Can't wait to get back out on it...

Mine are the BMW Vario Panniers. They are reasonably slim, but then you can slide a lever and expand them out a few inches. I have the top box as well but for 2 up camping I leave that at home and chuck tent, sleeping bags and mats into a big ortlieb dry bag.

Ah yes the vario ones. Just had a quick google, they're quite pricy. Might wait until the new year before getting some.

Where did you go on your Euro trip out of interest?

Keep a lookout on eBay - you often see them come up for about £300.

I took my 13 year old son to Belgium and France to visit the WW1 sites, then down to Normandy to see a lot of the WW2 sites.

I've toured Europe lots of times, but like you I've done it on sports bikes and sports tourers. Didn't fancy that this time, especially with a pillion. Also the roads around here are great but crap quality, and the GS is just such a good bike for all types of roads. Happy on 30mph bumpy potholed unclassified roads, but equally happy to cruise all day on a motorway. Loving the electronic suspension too - I use it quite a bit. Comfort mode for pottering about and motorway riding, then sport mode on, panniers off, and it's a blast around the country roads.

Best bike I've owned....and I've owned a lot!

Sags, how tall are you, and how long are your legs?

Do I:
a) Want to make you a pair of trousers
b) Want to know if my 5'8" 30"ish legs will work on one

I've had my mind set on the K1300S but after coming back from Cadwell Park to Reading on Sunday evening I'm leaning more towards comfort now too.

Hah, I'm 6ft, 32" inside leg.

I'm using the standard seat, in the lower position, and can get both feet more or less flat on the floor. It's a lot easier to manage than the triumph tiger I had a few years ago. They also do a specific low seat for it :)

Nice pictures sagalout, I did Normandy a few years back, would love to go again. I've not seen any ww1 stuff, so that's something I need to look into next year.

Totally off topic, today I realised the number plate on my bike is wrong. All the paperwork has it down correctly, but the plate shows a y when it should be a v. I'll be contacting BMW first thing tomorrow. I've checked the chassis number against the number plate, and checked the dvla vehicle checker tool. All checks out ok, so looks like an innocent mistake.

@lollyhayes - Exactly the same model and colour my mate bought about 8 weeks ago... best colour scheme in this model I think. However have noticed that some of the black is rubbing off on the right heel/ankle side so something to maybe watch before your wears off...

Cheers for the heads up, will have a look to see if it's rubbing off. It was between this colour scheme and the blue white. I think the black pips it.

Cheers, she's my pride and joy.

She's currently off the road getting the tank resprayed (had to fix a leak), an R6 rear shock, new fork seals, stainless downpipes and braided hoses for the front brakes.

Fun VS economical, I need your help deciding.

GSXR600 K6 (8k miles) for £3400 or ER6N (5k Miles) for 2500?

depends on your daily mileage, i take it youll be riding it to work hernce the economical comment,

i havent owned an ER6N but have a GSXR600 K6 definitely a pepperami hot!!

quite the animal on twisties, and great acceleration, youll need to rev it a bit to keep ot in the power bands etc, but thats how they ride, something with a bit more BITE! but just as fun would be the gsxr 750 but thats also more insurance andfuel ;)

just my pennies worth, oh and if your gonna be in amongst the traffic daily your wrists might not like the gsxr !

I used to have a zx6r 636 and commuted on it but one unfortunate track day it decided it didnt want to live anymore. Never a problem commuting and loved every minute of it.

Since then (and as a subsequence of losing my NCB) I got a race license and have spent the last 12 months on nothing but tracks, which has been great but I miss the roads too.

I still have my zx6r but I wont be using it from the 25th october until next season so a considerable amount of no riding time!

Its just a question of is the gsxr going to be worth 1k worth of more fun than the er6? Probably but do I need it? Dunno....!

edit* My commute is 6.2 miles according to maps

the gsxr is a lot of fun for 3.4k,, this might sound a ridiculous alternative, but have you thought aobut something inbetween those too, !!! street triple ??

i have the speed triple but took out a street for a test ride, a lot of fun to be had in 6.2 miles and is about as balanced a bike i have sat on !
