*** Show us your Dogs ***

He aint specifically my dog, but he's the family dog. He's really stubborn. He loves to fight with you, if you push him he'll just push you back and box you with his big paws and you know when he's done that because he's bloody strong too!

I know a few ridgebacks; nice dogs, shame about the ridge being like spina bifida in humans.

What you are talking about is this

wiki said:
Dermoid sinus

Dermoid sinus is a congenital neural-tube defect that is known to affect this breed. The dermoid is often likened to a thin "spaghetti noodle" beneath the skin. Puppies should always be screened at birth by the breeder and veterinarian & the examination repeated as the puppies grow before they go to their new homes. This is done by palpation of the subcutaneous dorsal midline from the base of the skull to the insertion of the tail. Surgical removal is an option for affected neonates, puppies and adult dogs. All affected dogs, even those surgically corrected, should be desexed and never be bred from. But, surgical dermoid sinus removal can be extremely cost prohibitive and because all unremoved dermoid sinuses will eventually abscess, and abscessed dermoid sinuses will cause the dog a painful death, dermoid puppies should be culled whenever surgical correction is not an option. However, it has been shown that supplementation of folic acid to the diet of the brood bitch before mating & during pregnancy reduces the incidence of dermoid sinus.

Which is likened to Spina Bifita in humans, the ridge is not linked to that, it is just a health defect which is genetic.

Bit of a thread bump, but with a good reason I thought. Following on from Our Tinkerbells Pregnancy scan, 5 weeks later, this is the result....

Lovely Sibe there, was he the only one with heterochromia in the litter, I know it is more common in Sibes but never seen anyone with one, normally just the bright blue eyes.

How are you getting on with training him? I was looking at sibes for my next dog when Max gets a bit older.

He was the only one, had a lot of people comment saying he is a 'real' Sibe because of the eyes!

He is brilliant to train, if you give him full attention one on one he learns very well. Took a few hours to teach him how to sit and give us his paw.

Awwwwww congratulations on the safe arrival of Tinkerbells pups they all look gorgeous!:D

What is it about staffies and their love of laying upside down, it can't be comfy and I've never seen any other dogs do it (of the 4 dogs we have/had only our staffy does). :p

Well sibes are the only breed of dogs where hetrochromia is common, but the colour of the eyes doesn't make him a real sibe, breed standard allows all type of eye colours.

I think the sibes in the UK must be more domesticated than the american counterparts as all of the horror storys of them running for miles and miles before they notice are normally all yank/canada.

I will get some more pictures of Max and Holly this week.
