*** Show us your Dogs ***

Trying to help an aunt adopt a dog.

She's seen a sweet little thing that she really wants. But she's having the same trouble I had when I was looking to adopt. The shelters are VERY slow to respond or just don't respond at all.
I know these shelters are very busy and mostly volunteer run, but it breaks your heart when you hear nothing.

UK places gave us so much hassle we got koda from Bosnia.

Which ended up being a lot of hassle!

Funny enough I was looking to adopt a dog from Bosnia.
I wanted to go to the centre and see the dogs, but was told I couldn't. I needed to fill out paperwork and have a home visit 1st.

Mabli had her first litter a couple of days ago

You can see why an adult badger is a formidable opponent to a dog, my vet had to put 200 odd stitches in a pair of Anatolian Karabash males (BIG powerful dogs) that decided to take on a badger they encountered. They did kill the badger but at some cost to their svelte good looks, and to their owner.

He's obviously loving life!
Hopefully yeah but he is in bad health now with arthritis and dementia and bad teeth. He has a monthly jab for arthritis but can't walk much, i take him out in a dog stroller everyday. Not much i can do about dementia. His teeth are a tough one, he'd need a general anaesthetic for any work on them and at his age it's quite risky so not sure what to do for the best tbh.

They let you know through behaviour when it's time, it should become obvious to you when that happens. Until then just enjoy your time with him as best you can. It is sad when you see his health declining and we went through the same 9 months ago. If his teeth were causing a lot of discomfort he would not be eating or at least losing weight fairly quickly.

Yeh i think the dreaded time isn't far away but i've been thinking that for a while now, but i do think it's close now unfortunately. It's hard seeing them decline isn't it. We think his teeth are giving him hassle as he's very hard to feed - he's become extremely fussy and usually will only eat small amounts of soft foods that has to be hand fed to him, he is losing weight albeit slowly.

I'm a bit disappointed in my vet tbh - 2 or 3 years ago now he suddenly became a fussy eater, my usual vet were closed at the time so i took him to another vet who said his gums look red and could do with checking out. So a couple of says later i took him to my usual vet stating what the other vet had said and he just brushed it off after a very quick look inside Tykes mouth. I bet that was the start of his dental problems, and as he was younger and fitter back then getting them sorted wouldn't have been as risky. Now i'm not sure what to do for the best.

I could put him through an anaesthetic for his teeth but he is not far off being lame now and his dementia is advanced so is there a point to putting him through an operation. It's difficult.
