Awesome video Knip - I really think "Dave" is a brilliant name for a cat :D

He's also currently got the nickname "Diarrhoea Doorway Dave" The first D is cos he was a greedy git at the foster Mums, ate some grown up food, and got a poorly tummy, so has been on medicine for that, and the second D is cos he seems to keep lying right across my doorways, or in them.

You're right, Dave is a brill name, he suits it too I think :)

Well, I've been to see a pair of 10-week old boys tonight, both jet black and both with absolutely bags of personality. Was very hard to tear myself away but I had to be rational and think it over before committing.

That said, the chances are I will definitely take them unless something drastic happens. One of my criteria was a male black kitten and the other was to take him/them from a good household - and they couldn't be coming from a nicer, more caring home.

So... in the likely event that I'm going to have two kittens in the house, for the first time in years, where do I start?!

I've already picked up a selection of bits and pieces that I mentioned in a previous post, but what do people recommend with regard to food, toys, scratching posts, insurance, etc?

It's great when an older cat looks after a kitten like that and they can be pals.

Oh absolutely. The three resident cats here (staying at the in-laws temporarily) are rather unimpressed with the kitten, but Timber (our cat) has properly adopted her. Every time they see each other, they give a little squeak, nose rub and have a play fight. Its adorable, and im amazed at what Timber puts up with.

The missus took this yesterday, fearless kitty is fearless!

Good looking cat, especially for a freebie. I'd grab a few of her brothers and sisters and sell them.

Out cat that's missing is near identical to that one albeit bigger (male) . Did you find him and sell him ?

I say he's missing... More like stolen , he comes back ice every 2 months for some food and a fight with his mother cat

hmm has the stray kitten been checked for feline Flu and aids? Think I would be nervous mixing her with any exisiting cats until checked.

Settling in nicely - time for a nap.

Just to warn you, the kittens I picked up at the weekend, one of them had been eating adult cat food and it gave him a poorly tummy.

Might wanna get some kitten food for him or her.

Kitten food is a bit of a con, good quality (the important bit) adult food is fine for kittens, it's just that switching foods can upset cat tummies until they adjust. As such you should phase it in with whatever they are used to eating.

Winston is doing vert well on Macs pouches and tins of Catz Finefoods from Germany, with Hi-Life 60% meat pouches as an easily attainable back-up.

I don't understand this 'premium' food business - it seems part common sense, part con.

Take HiLife 60% as an example. They go on about '60% meat', which is somewhat misleading, but looking at the analytical constituents it would seem to be inferior to something like Felix.

HiLife 60%: Protein 10.8%, Fat Content 2.5%, Crude Fibres 1.0%, Inorganic Matter 3.0%, Moisture 83.5%.

Felix: Protein 15.4%, Fat Content 3.6%, Crude Fibres 1.0%, Crude Ash 2.5%, Moisture 75%.

But when it comes to the Nutritional Additives, it's wildly different:

HiLife 60%: Vitamin A 10,000 IU/kg, Vitamin D3 1900 IU/kg

Felix: Vitamin A 1415 IU/kg, Vitamin D3 195 IU/kg

They can't both be right, so either one is massively under or one is massively over on the vitamins count.

Go fearless kitty! The younger one who is well looked after by the others grows to be such a more social adult, in my experience anyway. Great to see!

Brotherly love in full effect!

Congrats on the new ones, glad you got two, they will be such good fun.

Food wise any good quality food is good, the fat content in the cheaper cat food is the stuff to watch out for, particularly once they are a bit older and neutered. Ours actually go a bit mad for whiskas pouches and I think that's because it tastes like junk food! They have it now and again and its like a treat. Generally though its high life fish and the like. Watch the fat first and work from there tends to be a good idea.

The main problem with lower quality foods is the filler they use, primarily carbs from grains.

Cats aren't designed to eat carbs, and struggle to digest grains especially. As such, a high-carb diet puts cats at higher risk of diabetes and other health problems.

+1

Healthy fats and clean protein are primarily what they need.

Mine are off for their first jabs today, am gonna get them wormed again too.

What are they jabbing them for, and will they be ok to leave for an hour or so afterwards (need to pop to shops)

Didn't know if there might be any side effects? :)

Thanks - I'm really pleased I found this pair.

They've settled in brilliantly and you can tell that comes from the care and attention they got in their first 11-weeks at their previous home.

The problem I'm finding is that there are so many conflicting opinions on what is actually good.

If you feed them X then you've got to supplement it with Y, and A is too smooth in consistency so you've got to add B, etc.

Surely someone makes a good-quality Complete wet food that's healthy, balanced, full of all the things a growing cat needs and relatively freely available?

Or is that HiLife?
