Show us your kitty cats

On a related note, looking through all the cats for sale, it's quite sad to see all the adverts for people giving up their cats. They always say "reluctant sale", but the reasons given can be kind of weak.

"Selling my cat as I've just had a baby." OK, and...?
"We're moving house"... And?

These people obviously don't think of their cats as part of the family.

And the fact that they're selling them too, it always seems a bit off. I "adopted" a Maine **** about a year ago, but fortunately they didn't want money. Though it was obvious she hadn't been looked after too well, in that they didn't pay her much attention. She used to be extremely aggressive and hostile, now she's calmed down significantly and is a really nice cat, even if she still enjoys a sneaky bite and scratch now and again.

It's a shame people give up cats and other animals so easily. They provided the demand so the breeders breed more and yet they arn't really wanted. Then we just end up with a problem.

My kittens/cats have generally been OK. my Ragdoll is a bit of a PITA, we've had a few "incidents" but nothing world ending.

Anyway, I know you internet people like your pussy

Hmm. I've noticed one of my cats just takes the occational chomp for no particular reason. It's obviously playing but a bit of a shock given how sharp their teeth are!

He's very very very particular about the litter tray. If it's not immaculate he's been known to find "alternatives". He's been better the last few weeks thankfully

[edit]

I wouldn't call my Ragdoll placid. He's usually the first one to instigate a play-fight. That said, he's an unusually large Ragdoll

Personally, that'd put me off, as it would feel like they're just trying to make money out of what is usually a distressing situation for a cat.

I'd actually agree. People generally attach value to something with a monetary outlay. If you have to pay x for something, chances are you're going to invest more time to make she it works out.

That said, if it's just your local ***** flogging on a bunch of tomcats.. :/

I'd rather someone sell their cat than give it away. Less likely that some awful human being will "adopt" the cat to "play" with their pit bull :(

do they really go limp when you pick them up?

my friedn wants a hosue cat, but would prefer a small cat are there any particuarly small breeds that are happy being an indoor kitty?

(london so just not safe out for it) but the cat would literally lead a life of luxary as thed spoil the hell out of the thing lol

To be honest, I think my Ragdoll is broken.

He doesn't go limp when you pick him up, he just gets ****y. He is a very laid back cat but does like a bit of rough housing.

I'd say they are good house cats (he likes a run outside, but doesn't try and escape). I'd suggest finding a decent breeder and finding a more placid one. Mine was fed on red bull and the tears of the irish

doesn't want to put their baby at risk from a potential future accident where say they forget to close the child s door and the cat goes in and ends up scratchign the **** out of the bay when it pokes it in the eye

Plenty of people manage to keep their pets after having children.

They must not be very imaginative, or not very attached to their pets, if they decide to sell them on after having a sprog.

Besides, you don't leave babies with pets unsupervised.

In other news, I really wish people would de-list their kittens for sale after they've been sold. It's kind of annoying to keep contacting breeders only to find out kitty is long gone. And it must be annoying for them to keep getting emails about sold kittens. /sigh. I've now exhausted Cornwall completely and have at least a 150 mile round trip to get a little fuzzball. Unless they're sold too :p Not holding breath at this stage.

Think I'll go visit a rescue centre tomorrow. One of them doesn't have a website so I have no idea what they have there. The other had mostly older (10+) cats and cats with traumatic pasts (they're very honest in the adverts) :( Didn't seem like a goer.

accidents happen, of course you don't deliberately leave your pet and child unattended, however things go wrong.

as evidenced by the deaths in the papers every so often.

Also did you consider that some people think they may no longer be able to provide for their animal with the increased cost of the child?

if they cant afford insurance should they give the animal to a owner who can or just **** it an carry on an kill it when it gets ill?

Tefal, it's a question of priorities and commitment. I think you're itching for an argument but I'm not going to give you one. I'm just going to say that I think some of these people are giving up their pets far too readily because they don't value them highly enough.

no sorry pirotiries and commitment?

they've had a child, thats number one priority.

the pet ok they cant afford to keep it healthy and safe the responsible thing to do is to give it up to someone who can.

Saying people have their priotieeis wrong because they have to give up their pet due to circumstances is just painfully blind to the reality of life.

You might want to think strongly about his before you get a pet.

Can you guys clear up something for me?

Mum has been talking to our neighbours, her friends, and my brother. All of them have told her not to have a tom cat, because "they stink". I initially responded that if neutered early, before they start spraying, that they are unlikely to ever start, and that they won't smell any worse/different to female cats (because that's what I read, just about everywhere).

But no, her friends and my brother are bona fide cat experts, because they all owned male cats, and according to them all male cats stink.

So as well as insisting that I get a normal looking cat, she's now insisting that I only get a female cat. Before long she'll demand that I only get a cat which doesn't eat or poo. Genuinely annoyed now.

I have a male cat. He's 4 this year and doesn't smell at all. Infact I think he smells quite nice in an animal sort of way. He's never sprayed at all.

Or, since pets aren't really that expensive that person should think hold on, if things are that tight should I really be having children.
