Millie is not well, very smelly from here rear end and not from passing wind more that she had been unable to clean herself. This was Friday I washed her as best I could but the smell lingered. Seems OK in that respect now. But whilst washed her I felt a strange lump which did not seem to be under her skin but more like matted fur. But it causes her discomfort when touched so got her booked in to her vets first thing tomorrow morning.

Overall seems quieter than usual but still going out and eating reasonably well though that is difficult to tell as she is such a picky eater.

Stupid question.

Are cat flap holes all cut the same size? I have a cat flap already in my UPVC door, but if I wanted to swap it for a microchip one, is it just a case of taking the old cat flap off and popping the new one on?

Mine wasn't. I had the Cat Mate large cat flap previously as I really didn't think my cats would use the smaller, normal sized ones. I just changed to a Sureflap microchip pet door and while the new one is larger overall, the flap is slightly smaller meaning a smaller hole. It wasn't a problem for me as the flap isn't in a door. It's actually in the blank panel under the kitchens double glazed window so I just fitted a new panel and cut a new hole.

I just had a look around at various cat flaps and the actual hole cutouts are all over the place even from the same manufacturer. I would say to do some careful research (I only had a quick look) and see if any actually do have the same size cutout as the one you already have. If none are the same choose one that has a larger cutout than the one you currently have as it's relatively easy to enlarge the hole.

Yeah you do have to be careful buying cat flaps are research the product thoroughly as it seems most cat flaps have a different template so if you have a hole already then you need to pick a product specific to that hole size.

I currently have this one

I have no idea of its model because a handy man fitted it for me 3 years ago. How do I work out if a microchip one will fit?

Tell me I am not allowed to get this kitten which would confirm my status as a mad cat lady.

Just back from the vet 66 quid lighter in the wallet but a whole lot of weight off my mind as all is well. Apart from a thermometer up her rear and a booster jag the whole thing went smoothly. To celebrate I let her walk back from the vets off the lead.

No. You are not allowed.

Instead, I shall be a gentleman and take him/her off your hands.

Anyone got a pet collar video camera on their cat? If so which one?

I suspect mine is eating elsewhere and would like to know where.

That looks to be a Catmate 309 or very similar. If it is it has the following dimensions:-

Dimensions
Overall Width: 192mm (7.625")
Overall Height: 200mm (7.875")
Cut Out Width: 165mm (6.5")
Cut Out Height: 174mm (6.875")

You need to look at the model you want to buy and compare the cutout dimensions with it.

The Catmate 360 microchip flap has a bigger cutout size so that's one option but you will need to enlarge the hole a bit. It's a bit of a minefield with the sizes though so do your homework and carefully check the needed cutout dimensions as they are all different.

Another thing you need to consider is the distance from the bottom of your current cat flap to the bottom of the door panel. Most of the microchip flaps have a much thicker bottom bit than the one you currently have so you need to be careful there too.

So does that mean this one would fit?
