Show us your kitty cats

Thanks folks, will certainly take a look at that site. I was looking on the sspca site and they have very few older non outdoor cats. I will give our local cat shelter my criteria and see what they have as well. Will be good to come home after work to some company :)

Haha, I far prefer the company of my two kitties to that of some of my friends :D

It is great. Both of ours are outdoor cats - but one is very homely. He does not go out for long and spends most of his time chilling out in the house.

I pull up on the drive where a second ago there was no cat. I open my car door and cat #1 is there like a ninja to greet me. Has a fuss and a roll about on the drive for a belly rub. I walk to the front door and he follows. I open the front door and cat #2 is sat in the hall (or on the bottom step of the stairs) looking at me and purring and I get more fuss from him.

That is almost every day I get home and no matter how crap my day has been - it always cheers me up :)

Thats awesome :D I will hopefully be moving to a house in the next year or two so look forward to having an outdoor cat as well. The long haired white cat I grew up with used to laze out the back on the decking and sit in the sun for hours.

Obviously there are many cat lovers on here, but where would you recommend getting a kitten from?
After much thought, and advice from the GD community we have decided a dog isn't right for our current circumstances, but a cat would fit the bill.

So, a house cat is required, mainly because of the proximity to a main road. Pet shop, adopt, local advertising e.g. Gumtree or somewhere else?

Go for Cats Protection. They will have had the kitten already spayed and chipped plus helping rehome from there means another cat can be rescued :)

just find the one closest to your place :)

I don't know where you heard that but that's not true. Certainly not true with us in Belfast. Some cats who need rehomed, that have lived indoors with an elderly person all their lives, would require indoor living only as that is all they have known.

A bit of playing around with a new lens... you guys are probably sick of my kitty pics now lol :D

Do your cats pose to order - seems like you say "lean back and half close your eyes" - that's it - click

This first one I have noticed has what looks like blood on corner of right eye - noticed it on some of the other pictures.

Wife says they look really laid back cats and very contented.

Well... first earned a bad name in my book after they turned down my grandmother. She was living in a good location, loving family etc & already had one cat living at the property. Apparently the road was too busy. She had four cats in total at that house... all fine & there never appeared to be any string of cat road kill along the road while she was there... one of my favourite houses actually.

They are one of those charities that seem to act more like a business than a real charity... so I won't support them & won't recommend them.

Our first pair of cats where from a friend of a friend whos cat had a litter & the second pair were from a local fostering place we found online.

Hahaha... not quite... just lucky with them.

Cheshire (not the girl you quoted) seems to love to pose... even running around the garden or jumping up a tree... it's as if she acts a bit differently when she sees that I have the camera in my hands... she pauses for me to take a quick photo and then carries on with what she was doing :D

Leela... the girl you quoted... absolutely hated my last DSLR... she would run away at the first sound of a shutter going off. This one, she seems to be ok with... but some of those squints you see I interpret as a slightly disapproving look, as if "you're not taking photos of me AGAIN, are you?" :D

You may be right with what was in the corner of her eye... and we keep an eye on that kind of thing regularly... I assure you she's fine & clear now :) But thanks for picking up on it.

They're like our kids, so perhaps a bit spoiled... certainly nice and relaxed in the place we're living at the moment.

Emailed the RSPCA and they don't condone house cats unless the cat is disabled or diseased.

Thanks for all of the advice.

You may need to buy from a breeder or if you want a moggie, there are plenty available on pets4homes. Some are unwanted litters, so you will be doing them a big favour by taking a kitten off their hands and giving them a good home.

I still find it extraordinary that cat/dog shelters would rather put animals down, than give them a chance in somebody's home.

Funny that, we rehomed a cat that refused to live indoors or get within 20m of humans from the RSPCA as they didnt have a clue what to do with him.

Following an ear infection which he had to be treated for and going bald through the stress of being touched by humans he had to be kept indoors for 2 months to recover.

He rarely left the house again and decided after 18 odd years that he loved humans and wanted cuddles constantly.

He had no teeth, was deaf and epileptic, and was hands down the most affectionate and best cat I have ever owned :(

If you wanted an indoor only cat then you could contact the local rescues and say you are willing to take an FIV positive cat. It's a cat disease that means the cats need to be kept inside so they don't infect others, but most cats with it live perfectly healthy lives, they are just carrying the disease.

If you wanted, I could contact Bristol and Wales cat rescue and see if they know of anyone up your way that they would recommend? :)

I have to keep my cat indoors at the moment. 2 roaming males basically dragging their testicles and Whiskey isn't a big cat. Plus next door has a dog and likes to shoot things with an air rifle, including birds.
We take him out in the garden on a harness and extendible lead.

Moving soon hopefully, once adapted to the house and surroundings via lead, he'll be able to go out :)
