Got her 2 days ago, shes just over 14 weeks old.
She's quite a character, sleepy and then very active!

How do you add photos? I've used the 'Add image' button and put in the link to the flickr page? And nothing is showing

try:

just remove the `*` and all should work

basically the first link you provided is a generic link to the page and not the photo itself. If you chose the higher of the medium res photos, then right click the photo and choose properties, you can get the exact address of the image. It should end .jpg, and then you put that in the add image box, or just add

Our cat, Dave, got ran over and killed last week.

Sorry to hear that mate, I remember seeing a pic of Dave in the thread earlier. Very sad indeed.

I've only started letting my two out a few weeks ago and I am still scared that something will happen to them. Luckily the roads are very residential around here and people are quite cautious.

You're a braver man than me! I would never let my cats out.

Nah i think they're just embarrassed by the prospect of a huge bloke taking his little cats to the park on a lead :p

Close up of Poppy :) - eyes STILL not perfect after having cat flu when we first got her, didn't think she'd survive it, but she's going strong and we just need to get her eyes fully cleared up now :)

And thought I'd also put on a pic of my cat Jess, that I had to leave behind at my mum's when I moved out (she's the family cat really) - think she's quite similar to Stanley a bit further up and she's just a mog too!

I think the viciousness seems to come from the Egyptian Mau genes.

The pic above is my Egyptian Mau, Reflex. He is a medium sized cat yet bullies much larger cats, including my Bengal, who really is gentle.

I would trust Mr Bengal with a child or another cat. I would not trust Reflex with a child or another cat.

A few months back I left my 2 cats with my sister, in addition to her own 2 cats. She managed for 1 week, after which she called me and stated that she needed me to collect Reflex as he was causing all sorts of mayhem.

If anybody wants a super athletic cat, then Egyptian Mau is definitely the cat for you. But be prepared for a cat which wants to be involved in constant physical activity.

Anyone got any other good toy recommendations? Silver foil balls seem to be the flavour of the month at the moment, Mac loves picking them up and dropping them into shoes

mine love the plastic rings of 2/4 pint milk jugs/bottles. oh, and drinking straws.

one of mine carries her straw around, drops it, and then sits and sings to it for 5mins before repeating. its rather cute!

Okay, so I wanted to ask fellow cat owners about their moggies toilet habits :p But since this is primarily a photo thread, first a couple of (truly awful) pictures, and a brief description:

Cat #1: Mogsy (terrible picture):

Cat #2: Kitty (this one was named by my Mum, not by me!)

Mogsy is a big bugger - around 6Kg. She's a little overweight, but not as much as she seems, given that she's fluffy. I got her from a shelter aged around 2yrs. She had been straying, and brought up four kittens while out in the street. When she was brought to the shelter she was covered in fleas and close to starvation. These days she only has eyes for food - understandably so when you consider her past. I had no intention of getting a full-grown cat, and certainly not a long-hair, but when I went into the cage to look at her kittens she basically adopted me. She came up fussing, wanting to be picked up, and wouldn't leave me alone... Mogsy is very quiet, and generally doesn't make a sound when she meows (just opens her mouth and air comes out). When she's desparate she might make a little squeak...

Kitty is one of her kittens. She was around three months old when I got her (around two years ago), and she weighs about 2Kg. She's pretty retarded really... A lot more active than Mogsy, loves to run around and play with toys. She doesn't "meow" much, but makes a kind of chirping sound almost constantly as she runs around, and a kind of whine when she's annoyed. Quite expressive really...

Aaanyway. My two cats have quite different approaches to the litter tray. Kitty will carefully sniff around the tray, to find the least be****ted area, carefully dig a hole with her paws, sniff again, then if she's satisfied, she will do her business. Once she's done she will cover it up nicely, sniffing several times until she's satisfied it's buried. Afterwards she will wipe her paws off on the newspaper I have under the tray. This is great, because there is very little smell.

Mogsy, on the other hand, just jumps into the tray, squeezes out a loaf wherever she damn well pleases (which as often as not is down the side of, or partially outside of the tray), then jumps out. The package she leaves behind absolutely stinks... The whole house reeks of crap for a good half hour.

Now, I have read that how thoroughly cats bury their turds can have a lot to do with expressing dominance. In the wild, a small female will usually bury her turds carefully, hiding her smell as much as possible, whereas the dominant Tom of the area will find a local high point, drop his deuce, and walk away without touching it, to make sure that as many of the the local cats as possible can smell his presence.

So... Is my cat trying to dominate me with her turds? Does anyone else's cat act in this way, or do they all cover it up carefully? How often do your cats dump in the litter tray rather than outside?

Yes, this isn't unusual. It may be more that she is showing dominance over the other kitty - especially if they are both using the same litter tray.
Anyway, don't scold her, just clean it up, cover it over, and get some scent. Chances are she'll learn and in a while start to clean up properly herself. This may also happen when she feels more secure.

Most of my cats have been rescue kitties, but I did get one that was over a year old. She was a lot like yours, quiet, opened her mouth and nothing came out (thus, her name "Squeak"), had no interest in play, and was not the best at using the litter tray.

Gradually over a few years, she really came out of her shell - and very very playful, very very squeaky when she wanted to be. She lived another 19 years with us.

So I'd recommend just being patient, let her get settled in which can take a long time with cats, and this problem will go away.
