Show us your kitty cats

The boy came back this morning. No problem getting him in a carrier. Vet checked him, he is registered to someone but it's been a few years and he has no recent activity. so trying to get in touch and he's staying with me for the time being in the 2nd bedroom with food/water/tray etc plenty of food for the poor boy.

If the owners abandoned him ill be furious

If we cannot get in touch I'll decide what I want to do with him. Assuming Ron does not get too angry, he's very unsure.

That's how I ended up with my cat: he turned up a few times over the course of a summer, was very affectionate and would sit with us for a few hours before disappearing again. Then one very cold winter's night he came in and stayed. We took him to the vet, found he was chipped and contacted his owners - we'd wondered if he'd been abused or abandoned, until we met them and found they were devastated he'd left. He'd been well cared for, well loved and still had a brother living with them. We tried to send him home with them but as soon as they unlocked the cat flap he was off and back at ours. I guess sometimes they just fancy a change?

This is May. We rehomed her from Celia Hammond just over two weeks ago. Around 12 years old, owner died, had been there since December.

However following literally the first night with her, she had an extraordinarily bad case of the flu. Saw the vet, got some antibiotics, symptoms going away, less sneezing etc.

Cue a week ago and she's starting to have some problems with one of her eyes - glassy looking, squinting, not really opening a lot. Another drop to the vet; concludes that she's got conjunctivitis as a result of the flu, as well as a corneal ulcer in her right eye. Get given two sets of eye drops (Isathal and Remend) which she's had 5 times through the day and also has to have a cone around her head.

No real improvements over the weekend at all, so take her in (again) this afternoon. Vet there and then said she doesn't mess around with eyes and now putting a referral to get her seen by an opthamologist, and she thinks it might be a melting ulcer, which in her words is 'not great. Off the Isathal and now given something else to take as well as Remend.

At this point, just hoping to avoid the worst, but right now I'm gutted for the poor girl having to go through all of this. We are insured with Petplan for four weeks as part of the rehoming, which runs out on the 8th March. My OH is rather upset about it all, and I'm just trying to soldier on as best as possible. Don't think we could have been any more unluckier.

I hope it all works out rickjames. I guess there is a higher risk with senior cats of heath issues but that is such bad luck just a few weeks in. Fair play to you taking on a senior cat though, they all need loving homes.
Thanks. She came to us with no prior issues, got her vaccinations etc. Just unlucky.

Anyway, since coming home earlier she's opening up eye a little, and still her usual self. She's such an absolute sweetheart

I feel for you and the cat - We did the same and Holly was a stray that ended up in cat home and we picked her -After a year or two she had ear problems and we were in and out of vet like a jack in the box.
Turned out to be a tumour in ear - Loads of scan's and operations but in the end we had her put to sleep -A sad time was had by all.

Now we have Ronnie and he now has a bad ear- so swollen inside they can't see the ear drum - He is on antibiotics to try and reduce swelling then a trip to another vet they own to have a minature camera down his ear.

I hope to god it's just a absess or something like that.

Good luck with your cat.

Some good and bad news depending how you look at it.

Max has been a very good boy gave him his space and he even came to sleep with me yesterday, which was so sweet.

Finally got in touch with the owners. turns out they lived within 10miles of here and they moved about 2 years ago. Max (his name is actually Charles) has always been an outdoor cat who would disappear for days/weeks and they couldn't find him by the time it came to move. They have 2 kids which where devistated and attempted to find him multiple times with no luck and no one reported him into a vet.

They do want him back and are coming here on Friday to pick him up.

I'm not his owner so I don't really have any say in the matter but I'm abit gutted, was ready to welcome him but from the quick telephone call I had with them they seem friendly.

Going to spoil him rotten till Friday

meanwhile

Small update - off to the opthalmologist this morning to get May looked at. My own eyes hurt at the consultation fee for it all.

Rolled over our insurance when the charity cover ends - kind of relieved that the charity one comes with an excess but no 20% contribution like the plan she will be on.

Another loose question - we've had 3 visits to the vet so far, one for the flu and two to do with her eye. If we were to claim for those, would we claim for both vet bills together or would they be separate claims?

Well, left now with a £1200 bill for a truckload of medication for her.

Man that sucks. It does show how screwed we'd be without some kind of socialized medicine and were left with a US system but you couldn't afford the insurance.

I'm not sure what to do insurance wise with Bert and Ernie. I paid for Bifty for 11 years and only 1 claim and that was at the end and as they didn't do the x-ray and endoscopy it only came to £650 and they paid 80% of that. I was paying £44 a month for £3k for any one issue. When you add it all up over the years its a lot of money. Might be better off just putting £50 a side every month.

To be fair, we are covered (and will roll over from the charity plan on the 9th) and the vet did explain it quite well with Petplan and making a claim.

Anyway, whole list here. The person seeing her it all probably came as a result of stress, which despite not being evident to us isn't remotely surprising. Thankfully with some medication and care there shouldn't be anything extreme required
