Lovely cars thinking about getting one to replace my MK1 MPS in the next 12 months or so.

Does it use the same basic turbo 2.3 Duratec as the previous version or something else now?

It's a Mazda engine but yes it's the same unit.

O'rly? Everything I ever read about the MPS had lead me to believe it was mostly a Duratec with a few minor changes and a turbo

I believe Ford own/owned rights to badge it as a Duratec engine but it's designed by Mazda

Mapping tweaks and gearing. There are some other mechanical changes too.

Engine is mazda designed correct.

Thanks man. Nah just usual swapping out bulbs to led ones for now!

I'm sure in the coming months it will gain some choice modifications along the lines of a remap, exhaust etc.

Just looking forward to enjoying the car as it is, double the power that I'm used to!

Some parts have been left on as part of the deal and others iv taken off.

The labour costs to remove some parts negates the money you would get back from selling them. Eg lowering springs

Tax is £285 for the year on the mk2 model which what iv got.

All mk1 models were made post 06 so they are £485 a year.

Mazda made tweaks to mapping to reduce the emissions somewhat.
