Whats it like reliability wise?
3 main common problems is
Water seals. It's the equilavent to a head gasket going. It's totally dependant on the type of usage. Lots of heat cycles and short journeys means they will fail quicker. The Americans get more miles out of theirs before they fail due to the longer roads. You can still drive it around, but you loose more and more water the worse it gets. You have to take the engine out and take it to bits to replace these seals. I did this myself last year just before the nurburgring trip.
Rear suspension pillowball bushes. These usually last about 50,000 miles before replacement is due. You start getting a clunking noise on deceleration.
Turbo control system. All these cars came with twinturbo's and the turbo vacume system is pretty complicated. Being a 15 year old car with many heat cycles, these rubber pipes are gonna leak and cause boost problems.
Rx's have a bad rep for blowing up. If they're tuned correctly and in good shape with all the reliability modifications done, they will be fine. They love being revved, but like any £35,000 car like this was when it came out in 1992, they are gonna cost a lot of money to fix. Just imagine how much £35,000 was in 1992. Average price of an house back then was £60,000!
Mazda has a good rep for reliability. They came out top last year. http://www.egmcartech.com/2007/01/25/mazda-and-honda-top-the-reliability-survey/
With this car, it's gonna cost a lot simply because it's a specialist type car that no one knows anything about.
