Show Us Your Motors!

Finally got? Has it been way for a while? This is the year I get a ride out in it

Dropped it off at McLaren in November for a weird electrical gremlin, dash would cycle randomly on and off whilst driving like it was rebooting, doors, windows, lights and heaters would all reset or go crazy, engine would stay running but gearbox would drop back to auto. As it was getting bad, had it recovered and told them I think its the body control module as I'd had multi meter hooked up and there was no voltage dips but the car was going mental, would even do it whilst locked up and off, it had become possessed.

Had it recovered, thankfully when they off loaded it the tech guy experienced it, even locked him in, good job for emergency door release pulls, but no error codes stored and it then never did it again for two weeks can be random, two weeks later starts again and they feel I may be right body control module but they had dash out checked loom and ended up replacing the steering column motor and security body control module and update all software across all modules. This was all finished over XMAS week and it has been three weeks of checking and no issues so decided it was time to get it back. Fingers crossed what they have done has cured it, I was in no rush with it been Winter so let them store it, back now see how it goes. Praying all sorted but with such a random issue they cannot be 100% they cured it, but its under warranty until March 2027 now so all good. :)

I watched last week - the whole time I was wondering who volunteered their car for this knowing it might get damaged. Did you have an agreement that they'd pay for any damage?

Tbh I didn't even consider it getting damaged. I had to sign quite a few documents but Mat was so careful.
The mirror damage was actually caused last year on the way into Goodwood FOS - A camper van drove down a very tight road and hit a number of mirrors including mine.

Last year I filmed with CarWow in London for the I expose how new cars are too FAT! video.

Was a blast with Mat and the team. I was so worried about how the car looked on video so took all my cleaning gear! Came out really well and taken back by the praise for my old M3. We've actually shot a drag strip video a month after - In December. Look forward to how that comes out.

Amazing, car looks sensational. Better than that bloated mess!

Picked this up on Friday. Took it for a 360 mile round trip to south wales yesterday. It’s amazing! Wafts along effortlessly or put your foot down and it sounds like a Spitfire!

Needs new boot struts, discovered after leaning into the boot and almost getting knocked out!

Got a few little jobs planned for keeping it perfect. It’s been in a private collection since 2019, amazing condition, no rust

That generation SL has aged so well. I was never fond of the multi spoke wheels on the 55’s, prefer the 5 Star on the 63s. Lovely car.
Yeah, the design is perfect! I looked at an SL63 (2013), faster/better in a lot of ways but just couldn’t do it. This car is effortlessly cool. Not trying to be all shouty like modern cars

I was also impressed with it doing over 350 miles on a tank. Way better than my c63 and e63

Edit: I’m getting old! :)

The older I get the more I want one of these(the E46), what a beaut
I adore the E46 platform, my old E46 was a right money pit but I think if you get the right example they're lovely. I put a lot of miles on mine though and it was a bit of a dog when it was acquired by a friend.

TBF, they are all money pits. They are just getting to the age where they need so much spent on them - being 20+ years old, anything that has not replaced will need it. This year alone I spent over 6k...

- Do88 Radiator and Oil cooler
- OEM A/C Condenser
- Service
- Head gasket + Skim
- Full Vanos overhaul

It's a fantastic car. Was incredible around the Nurburgring GP Track & Spa this year. Keep up with some much quicker cars!
No matter where I go people always stop and take the time to talk to me about the car, it's becoming more and more special as it ages - Like fine wine! :D

Yeah I checked the MOT history of my old one and it had either a Facebook mot or he’s spent some cash.

Me and a mate replaced the whole coolant system on mine in my garage as that went boom, engine mounts, dif mounts, centre prop bearing all the bushes and then they lasted about 12 months somehow.

I think that generation of SL is going to shoot up in value in the near future. Much like the R129 did. I remember when you could pick those up for peanuts.
It's such an elegant car. Something that could be driven to any destination for any occasion and would never look out of place or 'kitsch'. It's also a car that I can picture pretty much anyone driving without thinking it odd. 80-year-old old-money boy, 30-something businesswoman, royalty, whatever.

The size difference is incredible!

I only commented after seeing the thumbnail, watched the vid now. These fat new cars are crazy.

Being in the SL for a couple of days, it's crazy how massive other cars seem. Obviously I'm quite low, but seeing SUVs next to me with their wheels going higher than my bonnet is crazy. I'd be terrified to be hit by something that big
