Must be forever filling it up, what a total waste of time putting 20 quid in at once?! It's a brand new car, I'm sure you can afford to brim the tank and visit the filling station 4 times less often :p

Cleaned to within an inch of its life. And it still looks faded red.

Who fills up 20 quid at a time lol

I haven't filled a full tank for years - this is unlucky for my, I once did it in a Mondeo and it was rear ended straight away, same thing happened in a focus, so I just put in what I need for the week

And I'm not sure how many miles a year I do, the car is personal leased and was cheaper to get a diesel as they were on offer at the time, after my guzzler audi I wouldn't have a petrol car anyway, the only way you get good economy out of one is drive it like a granny then all the enjoyment has gone

chav clothes obviously because I am a chav

I don't like running a car so close to empty... older cars you usually get crap at the bottom of the tank, so not good to run low... otherwise it's more of a what-if thing... what if you have an emergency to get somewhere and could really do without the extra 5-10 minutes to brim the tank to get there?

I'd rather keep it at full and top it up to the brim again every week :p

In reality... I tend to run it until 1/4 full and then brim it again... only gets lower on a longer motorway run (like UK -> Switz) where I'll use a full tank in a go and know where the next filling station is, so can run it til the light pops on, when I have 50+ miles remaining...

So you visit the petrol station 4 times as often as you need because you once had a car written off with a full tank?! have you any idea how nuts that sounds?

It would take more than a rear ender to write off a brand new Leon anyway!

I'm curious how you managed to get under 20mpg from your old audi.

Even my 310bhp 3.4L NA Flat 6 is averaging 25-26.

Similar economy I was getting from my RX8 but soooo much more enjoyable :D

It's only my XKR that managed to get that low... I averaged 16.7mpg for the time I owned it.

Fuel barely costs anything in the grand scheme of things that's such a stupid excuse to not put a decent amount of fuel in the car

They do look very nice, insurance is ridiculous for me though :(

This seems like just as much of a waste of time to me, why not just run every tank through to the light knowing you have a 50 mile reserve and visit the fuel stations less often?

It's OK... after his next accident he will fill it back up again.

/I also couldn't stand visiting the filling station that often for no viable reason (ie, actually using the full tank).

lol superstitions...

Quite, seems a bit weird, my diesel is barely any more efficient than my 3 litre petrol unless I'm on a long run on the Motorway or something.

Not quite as silly lol... it usually gets a bit under a 1/4 really with about 100 miles left when I refuel.

It's a 70 mile round trip to the filling stations I like to use for the Porsche (where reserve light is less than the distance to the station). Switz offer 100 ron.

30 mile trip for the BMW.

/I live in the middle of nowhere ;)

/I don't like having next to nothing in the tank in case I need to get somewhere...

There are a couple of more local filling stations, but the closest one offers really crap diesel at 110% the price of the supermarket I use & it's caused problems with quite a few peoples' vehicles. The other one is pointlessly more expensive... so just time filling up with going to/from work or supermarket.

There is the odd random filling station closure over here too, more frequent than UK and lower density of stations... I almost got into trouble with this when I was bringing the Porsche from the UK to here. Not in a hurry to have that problem.

The reserve is there for emergency use... the little light is not your average reminder to find a station... it's the warning that you're about to run out ;)

70 mile round trip to a decent petrol station  blimey  better off filling up some canisters and storing them safely! If that's legal.

Might brim it tomorrow just for ocuk
I just have my routines... another one is going to the cash machine and getting £20 a week out for lunch money at work.. I could get £80 for the month but then I would spend it at the pub

The supermarket that is decent for diesel is ok for 98 ron petrol too.

It's just... the price for 100 ron in Switzerland is exactly the same as the price for this OK 98 in France... so I might as well fill up on the way back from work ;)

Car's rated for 98 and will de-tune itself when it senses fuel worse than 98... but still, I'd rather use Shell V Power 100 than 98, especially when it's the same price (£1.10 per litre).

Diesel is 78p/litre
98 ron is £1.05 from other swiss filling stations
95 ron is 98p/litre

The landlord actually left 2 or 3 25L fuel cans + 3 10l cans + 2 5l cans in the basement...

lol

Good luck re: not getting rear-ended... not that you need it :p

/get £80 out, leave £60 at home so you don't accidentally take it to the pub with you ;)
