Might be getting rid of my 190HP rev machine to make way for a 160HP dagdag :(

Mileage may be going up to 35,000 miles a year... Massive pay rise though so... I dunno... Mixed feelings!

This does mean I'll be back in a Polo though, which I am ecstatic about and I really don't understand why... :D

What's the job? Do you get a company car or are you looking at something already?

The job title is to be confirmed but basically I will be the on-site IT representative/manager for my company, at one of our client companies which is a large finance firm. I'll have an office... :D

As for the second question, I don't know yet. Possible car allowance. Don't think the company offers company cars. If they don't give me either then I can still claim 45P per mile which will work out as a lot of money... :p

I don't really want to drive to London every day, so I'm trying to arrange a meeting with my team leader to see if I can do 4 day weeks or shorter days over a 5 day week.

Will see what happens.

Thats it yeah. Thanks for reminding me of that little snippet! I'll go off and work it out again...

e; £9500 a year in mileage allowance. In my current car, fuel would cost £3750, two extra sets of tyres would cost £500, increase in insurance premiums would cost £600, extra oil and filter servicing would cost about £50 more. So in total about £5000 without including brakes, other wear and tear items, etc.

In a 160HP dagdag fuel would cost about £2000, not sure on other costs just yet.

Also, business miles shouldn't include journeys from home to your regular place of work. If you're taking a job miles away and expecting them to cover the cost at 45ppm, you're probably barking up the wrong tree anyway

Congrats :)

You'd be mad to keep the Toyota. It's a head over heart decision but just suck it up and get a dagdag.

I'm not because they do it for me at the moment when I go up there for a month at a time. The company policy is from home, to the customer site. :)

Would like one of these, but preferably not silver. But they are very rare, and command silly money for what they are. They will get 165HP with a stage 1 map though, and a 165HP diesel in a Polo sized car will be plenty quick I imagine. Not very nice to listen to though... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2005-05-R...035867?hash=item3d1453b79b:g:~H4AAOSwZQxW5e9-

35,000 miles in a Polo?

A s a money saving excercise, not for comfort. Don't worry, I'm not completely delusional. :p

In fairness, it won't be as bad as doing it in the Corolla. The amount of engine noise in that thing on the motorway is ridiculous. At least the Polo will have a nice long 6th gear.

For that kind of mileage I would get something comfortable, automatic, quiet on the motorway and lots of creature comfort.

The trouble is, something which is comfortable, automatic and quiet, won't be very fuel efficient. I can get 44MPG in the T-Sport if I try, which is good going.

Any car which is comfortable, automatic, quiet, ANDb very fuel efficient, will be too expensive.

What is "too expensive" in your world?

You can get 60mpg easily in lots of diesel cars that is bigger than your Toyota.

"in your world"

I'm sure you didn't mean that in a rude way Ray so I'll let you off. :p

I don't want to spend any more than £3K on the Corolla's replacement.

I can't believe any of the latest Mondeo-esque offerings could be considered in any way inefficient. Isn't some form of Passat TDi one of the most economical diesel cars you can get?

Edit: Just seen you've got a £3k budget, assumed you were getting an allowance. Cannot contemplate doing 35k per year in a £3k Polo but if you're happy, crack on :D

I mean expensive is relative, different for everyone, to me £30k on a car is expensive, but not for some people. That's what I meant. Don't mean to be rude, if it came across that way.

I want to get something cheap, which can get 70MPG to make it worth it. :p

The Polo fits the bill if I can find any. If I have a change of heart I'll stick up a thread. :)

I buy cheap cars because my #1 priority at the moment is saving up for my future. A house deposit and such. Plus I wouldn't want to pile 35,000 miles a year on a car which is worth much, because it will be worth next to nothing before I know it. :)

Fair enough. I am just thinking that the last thing you want is to resent the decision to take the job because of the commute so anything to make it easier the better.
