The meridian surround system in the wife's Evoque is probably the most impressive i've heard to date. Shame she only seems to listen to Absolute 80s on it... Do love that it can rip CDs onto its hard drive in a lossless format as well

I bet the headunit sounds fine through some decent speakers/bass.

Every time I've upgraded the HU the stock speakers sounded better, and my ST has the 8 speaker system so can sound fairly decent with certain types of music but sometimes sounds a bit 'muddled'.

That's normally the way. The stock speakers aren't the issue, its the amp in the stock headunits which suck!

What about a speaker-level amp in line with the outputs from the headunit? Or some line level converters and then you can use any amp you want.

Went for a drive in the alto again. pretty sure the exhaust is falling off and the gear synchro for 2nd is going as well, but it still works and goes slowly.
