There is a brightness control for the XJ dash and the screen isn't really in your eye line when driving. I think quite a bit of that is the camera though, mines nothing like that bright.
 
Yeah, you can turn it down but I think it's the camera. Mine doesn't look bright at night and certainly isn't dazzling.
Those night pics sum up what I love about the XJ. The tech is outdated and it's comprehensively beaten in every measurable respect by the 7-Series, A8, S-Class, and even the LS600h but it's just such a lovely place to be sat inside. Makes me want to go out for a drive right now.

IMO drop-top is the way to go with a Mustang. Hear that glorious V8 properly.

Obviously I've been taking it reasonably easy while running it in, but on the few occasions I've gotten impatient and pushed it a bit, it's seemed fine to me, certainly nothing worth writing home about.
