Show Us Your Motors!

It's at times like this that it makes me question my new decision to sell the Alfa.

Is it actually worth selling? Surely it's monetary value is quite low now, but in terms of knowing it's history, knowing it makes you smile, and the fact that (at least in the pictures) it looks in great condition, it must be "worth" quite a bit to yourself?

It does look lovely.

Unless you desperately needed the cash in order to get something massively better, I'd be tempted to just save up the difference and garage it up.

For a good V6 you'd be looking at £5k+, so it's not as low as you would think.

I want something a little more modern, and I fancy a change.

e: Bear in mind that I don't won the house in the picture, it's my parents (I'm 22) so I can't afford to keep it and get something to use as a daily as well.

Can understand wanting something more up to date, but it's still a great car.

Any ideas for replacements then?
I'm considering an MX5 NC at the moment. It has been brilliant to be fair, it's just cost me quite a bit to keep it in its present condition!

Shame you can't keep it as that's a future classic for sure.

It's not that I can't, but I'm just thinking head over heart and I don't think it'll fit into my life in the next few years. I probably could afford to get another car along side, but it would be stupid as it would take all of my money which should be used for adulting :p

Hey at least you've been there and done that now :)

This won't help but I'll say it anyway you'll miss the car ;)

I almost certainly will, but it'll be with rose tinted spectacles. Considering it's the first car I've bought myself (I maintained my R50 Cooper previously but not like with the Alfa) I think it's been pretty good :p

That's a shame as its a lovely car :(

Your parents house is also lovely.

Thanks :)

A few of you already know so I might as well fess up, I've had this since September. :p

It is a 1998 MX5 1.8iS (the one with the 140HP non VVT engine and the Torsen LSD)

I bought it very cheap for the condition, because it hadn't been used for a year and had no MOT, and ABS & charging faults. After changing the alternator, the ABS ECU and two ABS sensors, it flew through its (proper) MOT with just one advisory for brake pipes. I thought it best not to mention it until I'd finished, because of my track record. I know I would have been subjected to a lot of scepticism and disbelief that my stupidity when buying cars could continue. ;)

Its really quite great to be honest! Handles like a roller skate, feels a bit quicker than expected, sounds nice (though a bit muted), and is really quite good condition, and I don't even mean by 'me' standards! Couple of nicks on the roof and seat bolster wear and thats about it really... The paint was done in 2014 along with the sills. Underneath at the front it is a bit flakey and it does have the usual rot starting on the chassis rails, but its not too bad yet. It will need doing if I decide to keep it long term, but I might just keep it until mid next summer and then replace both cars... I'm yet to decide. It was meant to be something I keep for a few months so I don't bore myself to death, and then sell when its in demand. :p

Little bit nervous about the RWD layout with no assists having never driven a RWD car before it, but it seems very stable and the back has only stepped out a couple of times and it took some real provocation.

Cost of the car, transporting it to my house, the parts to repair it, a full service including belts, and a full tank of VPower, a smidge under £1000.

Thanks guys. I must admit I have already priced up the bits to slap a scooby TD04 on it. Just can't decide if its a long term thing. :)

What we need now is an Acme project log, that doesn't start, run with and end in ridicule!

I'd like to see the state it was in when you got it, what you've changed, what you plan to do, etc.
