Show Us Your Motors!

Not been on here for a while - the project house has been crazy and work equally busy resulting in my not spending much time at home, or infront of a computer! (well for fun anyway!)

Sold the 350Z last week - It wasn't getting a huge amount of use and wasn't quite what I wanted. It is a great 'GT' but not the last word in enjoyment (engine note excluded). So what did I buy ... #becauseMX5

Its a 2011 Sport Tech, folding hardtop (I can't bare to put the roof up, even in this weather!) so far the mods have included me buying a wooly hat! Absolutely standard currently with ~49k and two owners, one of which owned it for 3 years and did 4k in it, the next one doing 17k a year!

I was concerned I was going to miss the 350Z mainly in the power department, but its been on two hoons already over the weekend and I absolutely love it! I've driven a few MX5s over the years, including Howard's supercharged Mk1 and there really is just something about them. Also in this greasy weather it is extremely tail happy - amazingly it came with a full set of nearly new Avons - which is a good sign towards maintenance. I am going to look into the Super200 conversion but that wont' be for a little while!

More worryingly - the Mrs quite likes it too!

Get the Eibach springs on there, handling is a bit "wobbly" as standard

Slightly more interesting replacement for the Skoda. Always wanted one, now have one. It will be less pink soon, on the to do list. :)

I'm in love to be perfectly honest. It was my favourite car after the first mile, and despite being 26 years old it is the most refined, comfortable car I've ever owned. It goes really well, stops really well, corners fairly well, and makes no weird noises at all. The engine note though, sounds like it was engineered by God.

Minimal rust, fresh MOT. Few little "old car" issues but nothing major, most of them I don't mind because they add to its charm and character. Like the wipers sometimes stopping in random positions instead of at the bottom, and the fuel gauge occasionally needing a tap to wake it up. :D

While it is a fantastic car it's more than an odd choice as a daily driver. Those are normally bought as 2nd cars and the like.

The Skoda was perfect for what you needed. Cheap daily motoring!

You do confuse Acme!

I'm sure a 25 year old BMW will never be sat in pieces on the driveway, which iirc was the exact reason for buying the skoda, because that was the problem with the previous car(s).

It's ok though, I'm sure we'll be kept up to date in as many vaguely relevant threads as possible.

How much of it's 160-170hp has it got left? :p
Any plans to get more from the lovely sounding 2.5L straight 6?

Dailying the MX5...

Will have two 'second cars' and no daily. :D

Feels like it has most of its power left. No plans for more power. :)

That red touring is lovely, proper cool motoring that.

I mean, there's no way I'd actually own one, but we can all live vicariously through Acme's ownership.

Yeah my commute is a 30 mile round trip not a 140 mile round trip now. :)

I found another bundle of history in the glove-box along with a purchase receipt etc. It has its history from 1991 - 2002, and from 2005 - present. Nearly all there.

Made for excellent reading. The previous owner was a credit to it with all the work he had done. Lots of recent big bills for things I planned on doing!

Thanks for the (mostly) positive reception.

Got a few things to work through before I post more pictures, getting the slightly scabby (but not rotten!) sills sorted, as well as the tiny bit by the towing eye, then have it undersealed.
Paintwork is oxidised and there is some lacquer peel over one of the rear arches. For now I'm just going to wet sand and rotary polish it and seal it with the help of someone in the owners club.

There have been many comments on the numberplate. :p

Its not the original, it had a private plate on it for years and then had this reg assigned when it was taken off. The original reg 'H120 JPA' isn't in use now though. is there a way to get it back? :)
