In fairness some V8's are worse than others. IIRC the new Mustang's are really surprising in the economy department. I think @Gibbo was talking about 35MPG on a run at one point?

A whole bunch of things affect MPG, from tyre brand and size, to worn bushes, hubs and of course driving style and journey style.

I remember that car. I saw it on the back of a low loader once. The entire rear end had been stoved in and every single airbag had deployed.

 :p

It's such a mean prank, but so funny.

What are the front headlamp lenses to change ?

You have to heat them up with a heat gun, pull them off, buy some non OEM ones and bond them back to the main headlight body. It wouldn't be too bad but I can just see them getting steamed up and/or leaking.

Did Bedford the other day, brands tuesday

Clio RS200 supercharged :)

Had a F12 ... Ferrari behind me so i turned on the charm, had a great couple of laps, he was sideways out of each corner and i was planted. Got black flagged for noise in the end, he came over shook my hand and said what a fun few laps

Looks nice! Supercharged is certainly a rare move, all I see are megane r26 conversions.

Thanks I can’t lay any fame for doing it, it was done 4 years ago. The reason you don’t see many is it’s a 4-5 k conversion which still runs standard internals

The turbo lump can be done for a third of the cost i think

The reason I wanted it was I wanted the drivability of a clio, high reving and not to much torque, this does it perfectly still 7600 rpm and not much more torque than standard. It makes for a fun car not saying the turbo engines are not fun

I was up against a tuned Megane at Bedford and he had legs on me down the straight

At a push, if you sit 65-75mph in 6th on a motorway run, then yes circa 35mpg is possible, they do it by using over drives, 6th in the Mustang is something like 0.64, so geared for around 240mph, as such sitting around 75mph is like 2000rpm, hardly ticking over.

My car in the 15,000 miles I did had a lifetime average of 17mpg and trust me I mainly drove around in 3rd gear, epic noise.

The new MY18 will be better again, the manual now has longer ratio's on MY18 so 4th is now 1:1 gear, 5th and 6th are now over drives, this is quite a shame really, shorter gearing within reason is more fun.
The ten speed has three overdrives, 8th, 9th and 10th so there will be some owners seeing 40+ on a run with those due to the longer ratio's, direct injection and aero-dynamic improvements. Of course I suspect my ownership average will still be under 20mpg as my trips town to be city driving or hooning around.

Modern cars are much better, you get more power, more torque and improved economy. My 911, M3, Mustang have all hovered around 17mph on driving I do, 911 could see around 32 on a run, Mustang around 35 and the M3 was the champ at high 30's, but now its got shorter final ratio it struggles to beat 35, whereas on stock ratio you could do 40 if you tried hard, helped by weighing a lot less than regular E46 M3.

Golf R averages around 20mpg on same trips, turbo's drink fuel big time when on boost, it can do 40mpg on a run but is not easy because all 6 gears are short, so 80mph in 6th is 3000rpm, I guess this is why VW on the MK7.5 made the DSG 7 speed as owners of those see 45+ on a run, bloody epic for a car that will literally destroy most other cars on the road (tuned).
I may be irresponsible but now I just always take the shortest lane at a roundabout, traffic lights because I know I can destroy whatever car is in the other lanes, the thing is like a catapult, just gotta steer and hold on. :D
Basically the Golf R has made me drive everywhere like I stole it, oh well. :D

Leave my car alone you miserable ********! :p :D

I must admit, I thought the alloys looked odd and discovered that they had previously been refurbished and the inserts and inner bit of the alloy had been painted black, instead of anthracite. This does makes them look a bit strange and "off". They need a refurb at some point anyway so it wasn't too much of an issue.

I'm happy to confirm that they are the genuine 220m alloys and the angle of the photo (taken from about 1.5 metres in front of where the centre point of the rear alloy would be) may explain why the rear alloy appears weird. I must admit - I still don't even see it!

And no, no lowering is happening or any other dodgy mods. It is a *sensational* car as it is, and to be honest, way better than I was expecting. I've never had a car that just accelerates so relentlessly and the DCT gearbox is just amazing and doesn't even allow a pause in the acceleration like a manual gearbox would do. However, I think the stand out option on the car is the Logic7 (I'm getting so old :( ). Maybe after nearly 3 years of listening to an E46 HK system, my perception is warped, but it has really highlighted how utterly crap the E46 sound system was. In fact, it's so good I have spent most journeys cruising at 50mph, with gearbox in auto, just enjoying the quality of the sound.

It is a much better cruiser than the E46, it looks better, it has much better tech, it's much more comfortable, the seats are better and it is much quicker. The quality of the interior is also a step up. Everything feels like it's got a better fit and finish than the E46. My E46 interior was in great condition with not so much as a rattle, but the E92 is just better IMHO. The doors are heavier, they close with a more desirable "thud" and the materials are better in most of the cockpit.

Dislikes:

- The steering isn't as good as in the E46 M3. It doesn't feel as natural at all and the servotronic steering means that although it feels heavy at higher speeds, it feels false and almost like an invisible hand is just holding gently onto the steering resisting my turning.
- It's the quietest 4.0l V8 I've ever heard!
- Can't change the dang front headlight lenses like on the E46 to freshen up the front end.
- 22-26mpg isn't great. The £535 a year contribution to HM Treasury also stings.

Your car looks wrong in the photo, simple as, sorry to be blunt, I do however feel its just the photo and the car is fine. Please park it on a flat road (tarmac) and take a few photos all round, I am sure it will then look fine. Otherwise get it to an alignment shop with a hunter, get the factory alignment put on the car and ask them to check everything looks straight and good. :)

Steering is nice on the E9x, but agreed less feel and not as natural.
You can make it louder easily, the exhaust mod works really well and is cheap, sounds very good too, I'd go the 2 pipe mode, 4 pipe is really loud. Or get a Remus exhaust, the downshifts sound incredible with the Remus setup.
Get the polisher out on the headlights, helps a lot. :)
The E9x V8 is a more race inspired engine, hence economy is not at the mindset and sorry I never buy a V8 powered car with economy in mind, so forget about it, give it the juice when it wants and enjoy it. :)

For me E46 M3 and E9x M3 are my favourite M3's, I know people race about an E30/E36 but man they are pretty horrid to live with and the new cars have lost their character, though they are hugely quick in a straight line they are not so great handling wise, though my understanding is the M4 Competition pack and M4 CS are greatly improved, but they just don't have the same appeal for me like the E46 and E92 did, I was very close to buying an E92 in the past, but the 911 won me over.

I nearly purchased an E92 couple weeks ago but I was trying my luck and bid the guy 11k on a 14k car, wanted it cheap so I could shift it on a few months later for what I paid. :D

Owning the Golf R turbo charged engines that hit hard are a bloody nightmare to balance mid corner. Your track driving, NA or supercharged is far better. Only the very latest turbo charged stuff is acceptable which Porsche are the only ones to really pull it off so far, I was very impressed with the 991.2's I drove on track which had upto 420HP, as you could balance them mid corner on boost as power delivery was very linear and NA like. Not experienced a turbocharged like that before. Well I have the cars that have turbo's so small you can hardly see them haha. :D

Never tried antilag?

All about the calibration these days tbh, with modern control systems you can precisely manage the throttle response. Your typical remap shop aren't going to be good enough to do that and will just tune for quickest spool and highest boost.
