Show Us Your Motors!

I don't know if Tom's one is the 460BHP version or not, but it's their unofficial gentleman's agreement with Ferrari. That and the fact that it's a Maserati grand tourer rather than an out and out circuit basher for outright speed. It's not trying to compete with any other car, because there isn't another car it needs to compete with in this segment. There's no reason why they could not have eeked 500BHP from the 4.7 v8 otherwise, considering the likes of Porsche can get 490 from N/A 6 cylinders at 4 litres.

Sorry forgot to say mines a 4.2

Anyone not find that cars have just gone mental in the last few years? My M140i is fairly average in today's hot hatch scene when compared to the A45 and RS3 and for a road car I couldn't justify the want our need for anymore power!

As before, it never needed more power. They have more power in the later models because it's just the revisions carried down form the Stradale (460HP). Even then it's still less than 100BHP/litre, not that this mattered at all.

And less indeed than my Corolla T-Sport per litre (105HP/L) Civic Type R EP3/FN2 was 98.5HP/L, S2000 was 118HP/L.

But thats not really an issue is it?

Yet less than an s2000 or a civic type r! It's sub 100bhp per l in a prestige car.
Look at other V8 engines for the era, which ones are better? Mercedes/BMW/JLR and the normal manufacturers were using super/turbochargers to achieve these kind of power levels from their V8 engines.

Mhm, 104HP/L, but it still doesn't seem like the end of the world. It produced about 9HP more from 200CC less, but revved to 8300RPM.

For comparison, a Corvette from the same year had 400HP from a 6.0 V8. 66HP/L. :p

Revving to a certain rpm is different to power production to redline though. Not all road cars (if any?) out of the factory continue to produce power all the way to redline. As an example, the 911 GT3 4.0 revs all the way to 9000rpm, but only makes power up to 8250ish. Likewise the same applies to other N/A cars that spin up to a high redline.

In part this is where tuners make their power gains, by mapping the ECU to continue producing power all the way to redline from a simple remap.

Yeah but we all know yank engines suck :D

I haven't even mentioned Ferrari or porsche yet! Weren't they chucking out like 120 or 130 per litre?

Still looking a bit two tone haha, need to do the wings, boot lid, and doors now so they match the rear quarters, sills, and bonnet. :p
