Love that car, engine especially.

Sounds like you got a good example.

Plenty of good ones out there for quite good money. If you decide to get one, be sure to check run in service, which should be done between 800-1200 miles and ask if he launched the car. If he's done a lot, most likely the clutches are pretty shot. There's a reason why BMW void your warranty if you do it more than 5 times.;)

What?

There is nothing in my user manual that suggests use of launch control voids warranty coverage and it's an advertised feature of the car. A pointless one I've used all of once, but a feature all the same.

Nice RS5, shame about the wheels... Ruin the whole car for me! Needs something aggressive, more densely spoked, at least an inch smaller, and then the car needs dropping a tad... IMO of course.

Nice M3 too. :D

I'm debating what to do with the wheels, I don't mind them but there are better and fancy them being a bit lighter in colour to be more in contrast with the car.

These wheels are nice: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/649886-PatMusk-s-RS5-Build-amp-Pic-Thread

I just love that a 530D has launch control. :p

Is it an option? Could someone spec it on their 116D?

I might be wrong then. I heard it from a few sources including a couple of BMW specialists and one of their techs in Sytner Harold Wood. I don't think I've ever seen anything about launch control in my manual either. BMW tech's words "it causes excessive wear on several critical parts and in case of failure we might put it down to excessive use of launch control". When asked what is considered excessive use of launch control he claimed, he does not know 100% but it is either 5 or 10 launches.

Obviously just cause he's a tech doesn't necessarily mean he's right. It might just be BMW trying to coax people out of it in fear of having to replace lots of clutches under warranty.

It comes with the Sport Automatic transmission option on 2013 onwards cars. So only 6 cylinder and above for the 5 Series but I think you can get it as low down as the 320d and 120d?

It’s a bloke just talking, talking talking talking. The internet was built on it but it’s rarely true. There is no number that I’m aware of.

I think it can be coded to (lots of) VAG's or MK5 Golf era > present?
Honestly, it's completely pointless with 150 bhp :p
DSG with flappy paddles does a good enough job and my commute rarely includes a traffic light grand prix.

Looks like we have a V8 showdown!

I think both look great.... However, there can only be one..... I'd take the M3. Just looks more athletic.

This is the second M3 I owned in the last 2 years. First was identical to this, however got caught off in a roundabout, and pushed out into the reservation and ended up with the car being a Cat D write off. Went looking for another car. Was thinking of an M4 but decided there's gonna be plently of time for 6 cylinder turbo'd cars later (not saying they're bad!). Went to see a few RS5s. Baby blue, red, black...all looked very nice, interior seemed like a bit of an upgrade towards more modern than my M3. After a week of searching, this guy drives past me in his E92 and after following him for like 5 mins decided its back to the M3.

The more sporty look of the M3 does it for me. I'm thinking of putting 12/15mm spacers for front and back respectively, but wanna do a bit more research. Some claim in upsets the balance of the car and increase road noise/vibration.

Based on my test drives of both of them, the RS5 seems to understeer a lot and feels quite heavier, not as nimble. Could be down to extra weight and quattro.

Lol most definitely!

In all seriousness. I've heard good things about these guys. And to top it all off you get to drive on the Alpine test track. I plan to head there in the coming months.
