Show Us Your Motors!

Starting to look it's age now. (23 years old @ 192K) Painted the rear calipers silver. Contemplating replacing it, which I'm finding extremely difficult.

Keep it. Sleeper status.
I intend to, however I’ll be starting a new job mid August where I’ll need to use the car to commute 5 days a week. Whilst it’s mechanically sound and pretty reliable, it’s not particularly efficient by modern standards. Not that I consider 28-30mpg to be all that bad.

The issue is that the chassis is now definitely suffering from the onset of corrosion. 20 years on a bus route that gets gritted every winter and only having on street parking does eventually wear down even the hardiest of cars. It’s certainly not as bad underneath as an old mx5 yet but I reckon it’ll need a few k’s worth of welding and paint in order for it to survive.

Bought this a few days ago, took it on a 600 mile trip yesterday to test it out. I drove a bit of everything - fast motorway, country roads and off road and it performed great. It’s had all the usual Range Rover issues addressed: the guy I bought it from was unbelievably wealthy and I have over £15k in bills.

I’m not expecting it to be trouble free - it’s a 9 year old JLR product after all, but unlike my Audi I actually like it, so I plan on keeping it long term. It has the same engine I had in my XJR, which is definitely a good thing :D

Fine choice @naefeart Did the plate go on your ISF?

It will do

@naefeart nice I'd definitely consider one of those.. I bet it has so much more character than the S3 ;)

Totally. The S3 is not a bad car, in fact it's was a good all rounder, but maybe that was part of what made it less.... fun? You pretty much point it in a direction and put your foot down. Same come rain or sleet. It never felt like you weren't in control or that it was going to bite you if you weren't careful.

Im still getting to grips with the ISF, in many ways it reminds me of my old E39 M5; nice and wafty when you want it, but a total animal when you put your foot down :D

Again it reminds me of the interior of my old M5 compared to that of my D3 Alpina (late E90) that i had at the same time. The E90 had newer infotainment and better graphics, but the quality of the interior, soft touch materials and the fit and finish was better in the E39.

Its very much the same situation now. The main difference is the Japanese way of doing things (buttons everywhere) but the quality and feel to me is just better. Although the infotainment graphics are dated compared to the Audi, most if not all the gadgets are still there: DAB, parking sensors, reverse camera, HDD NAV (not initiative to use), Jukebox storage, Mark Levinson 14 speaker audio with DSP and surround, USB connection and bluetooth audio etc.

The standard kit on these is also quite generous. I've got radar cruise, electric seats with memory for both driver and passenger, electric dimming and foldable mirrors and keyless entry. The seats are also much better than the Supersports in the other car; the searing position more comfortable and the leather is better quality - the Audi had done 8k miles but the seats looked like they'd seem 40k.

I wont go on, but im really impressed and it shows me the S3 was never really what i was after. When the time comes for something bigger, I'll check out the GSF as it's seems a logical progression.
