I quite like the little wing on the A45. A35 looks good too in yellow with the black wing and wheels etc.

I can see why some people think it's OTT though.

The rear wing certainly looks less silly on the A45 than it does the Mini GP. But I still don’t think it looks right.

The A45 is a lovely car regardless.

Best implementation of a rear wing on a “small hatchback” where looks are concerned has to be the 6R4, surely? :)

As in worse yeah? Better designed means you take away similar levels of lift for reduced drag. Eg. Idea of canards is to keep the nose down, nothing to do with mpg.

With an actual aerodynamic model of the vehicle stuff like that can be used to increase fuel efficiency with an understanding of the impact of the way pressure and vortices build around the vehicle in motion with little effect on downforce (usually small single digit percent differences). As well as using them for downforce. Just slapping something like that on indiscriminately more often just increases drag without any of the good bits.

EDIT: For example:

citroenet.org.uk said:
The drag of the Citroën GSA X3 has been reduced by the addition of a forward spoiler (which acts as a deflector and reduces the air-flow under the body) and of an aerofoil beneath the rear window (which reduces drag by modifying the rear lift characteristics), and by fitting a better streamlined rear-view mirror. The spoiler improves the CxS by 2.7 %, the aerofoil by 7.5 %. Both together improve the CxS by 10 % and reduce petrol consumption by 7.5 % at 120 km/h (74.6 mph).

Canards are there for downforce at the expense of drag

My original post was talking about the aero package in general - Jonnycoupe introduced canards into the reply to me. Potentially anything like that though can have an impact on MPG including positive. Yes canards like that are primarily in the vast majority of cases about downforce.

Yeah good point, M2 comp pack is more like a refinement pack to aero.

Hi there

Well as long as everything proceeds as planned, next week this shall be mine! :D

Those were added to try and make the car fly more predictably. It had a major design flow with the location of the engine and all the rotating masses went in the same direction.
