Show Us Your Motors!

A big part of the supercar experience outside of the performance is how they make you feel, how they tickle your ego and how other road users react. Now many people don't like to admit that, but it is a big part of their appeal. Some people take nothing from that and good for them, but many do and it's part of the appeal. For me a great car is one that you get up at 4am to go drive without anywhere specific to go or be. The feeling of power, the direction change, the sound it makes and the way that people magically (95%) just move out the way when they see you coming, usually without even realising they are doing it. The way it makes you feel when you walk towards it, how people react to it when they see it pull up, it's all part of the appeal for many owners.

No saloon car does that, none, outside of a few passionate sorts. It's not a right and wrong thing, it is horses for courses but for me the event of owning is a part of the appeal, more than I perhaps gave it credit for. Also, when you have friends built up over years who share your passion it is an important part of the social circle to feel part of the morning meets etc.

I did find myself looking over the McLaren 600LT more than the 720S, but for the money the 720S is the one as they head towards 160K. The warranty on my R8 is over £2K this year to renew, which is still good value when last year I had over £25K of claims on it. I would never take a fast saloon over a supercar if I had to chose one. No RS/AMG/M Saloon comes close to the 720S on any level outside the ability to carry 4 people.

I love the 600LT, especially the Spyder, in a few years when all things Mclaren have settled down they are all £50 I will probably take a 600LT, it might not be as quick as 720S but I just prefer the 600LT and I feel it will also be a more fun and engaging car to drive on the road.

600LT Spyder is my favourite Mclaren car so far, as in one I'd like to own, yes P1 and Senna are epic, but never a car I'd want to own to live with and drive on the road.

Even an M5 is overkill for 99% of driving

Yes. But its nice to be able to use that power every now and then. Launching it for childish giggles, Pod runs, sliproads, plus all the power means excellent in gear acceleration so nice drivability etc... Mmmmm one day

Meh. Get a 540i or 550i or M550d. Or an Alpina B5.

Love the S2000. It looks immaculate. I'm torn between getting one of these or an Elise.

Both great cars! Would be hard to choose between them really, s2000 can be found for less and will probably be more reliable and maybe easier to live with but Elise is on my to own list for sure.

Lovely, that. Great colour.

Thank you, pops in the sun!
