Show Us Your Motors!

Depends on the state but where I live it's very safe and a really common thing to do on weekends. That particular place is within the private neighbourhood I live in so the only people that can enter are my neighbours or people I invite. The horror stories you hear from Mexico are generally confined to particular states or involve people that are in the industry so to speak.

Still don't want to go to Mexico :p

Yeah I feel they are in a good place right now and imo have aged fantastically in the looks department.

Servicing costs etc, what's that like? Have to imagine they aren't as affordable to maintain?

One day

It is all Ford gear and I am sure the online following for the DIY is well established now. Anyone who can wield spanners these are a non issue imo.

Biggest expense on the AMV8 that owners can experience is clutch replacement it’s quite labour intensive and the parts are not cheap if you change everything which you should whilst it’s in bits. Mine was either 3 or 5k at a specialist.

Other than that it was never an issue really just budget £500-1000 per year servicing.

Just had the R8 serviced at a specialist which was £350.

Sounds better than I expected tbh

We have an Aston specialist over the road that we do work with from time to time, I'm sure they would keep it up together if and when

Big IF... AND a bigger WHEN

I’m glad you don’t, if everyone wanted to come here it would become just as expensive as the UK so I’d end up living in a 3 bed semi and arguing with the neighbours about parking :p

FWIW, I’ve only felt properly in danger twice in my life, once when I was robbed at knifepoint in SE London, and another time when I was filling up my car in a small town in Louisiana. Never had any issues in Mexico whatsoever.

Was going to post similar. I have a receipt for a clutch 20k ago, so should be sorted on that front.

Other than that they are very simple cars with not much to go wrong

Can you own AK's over there or M16's? That would be super cool.

Gun laws are surprisingly strict compared to the US, anyone can have a pistol but only up to .380, I believe you can have some rifles for sporting purposes but nothing like an AK47 or M16. Like in the UK, they all have to be registered and secured, you need a permit every time you move them etc etc.

My two in the garage, Clio 200 & V8 Vantage 4.3. Sold the R8 a few weeks back & bought the Vantage cheap which freed up some nice cash from the R8. Debating offing the Clio however it's great fun and don't need to get rid so meh.

Also have a 320d for work purposes but no one wants to see that.

nice Van :D

Was tangling with an alpine a110 gt4 at spa in may; can confirm it was quick! Friend of mine is looking at the S, good value.

Yeah David Pook who used to work for Jaguar SVR division and helped with the Project 8 runs Life110 and shows what a sorted A110 can do:

In short with the right mods they can be turned into crazy track weapons.

Alpine and R8 on track

You're a good teacher Gibbo. You could see Briony getting faster and faster as the sessions went on.
The R8 sounds really good. Like a proper Italian V8. I think it actually sounds better than the V10 to my ears anyway.

I'd say the V10 has it at top-end sound wise but it is close but for me the V8 trumps the V10 at anything under 5000rpm where it just has proper muscle car burble/gargle to it, best £1200 I ever spent, rev it beyond 6000rpm and it becomes very exotic Italian V8 sound, kind of two sound tracks in one with the V8 and the TopGear exhaust.

Yeah she gets quicker and quicker for sure, great thing about Curborough she has circuit to herself so she can practice without feeling pressured.

I've let her have a go on proper track days and unfortunately people get impatient and over take through the corner, been a couple of times where if I did not grab the wheel it would be car to car contact, which is not Briony's fault at all just the idiots who overtake without consent and even worse in a braking zone or corner which is explicitly forbidden on a track day, unfortunately you do get too many people testing/practicing or just idiots, as such she avoids said track days now, apart from Lotus on Track who in fairness are far better mannered and far better organised days.

I've never done a track day and am really put off by the things you've mentioned. I'd also be in a stock MX-5 so would probably be in one of the slowest cars on track just to compound the issue.

Curborough really does appeal to me though. Whenever a group gets together it always clashes with a work trip and the MX5OC day sold out in 24 hours but one day I'm going to get myself there and see just how bad a driver I really am :p
