Good job on the Scirocco, I really like these - Just goes to show that you don't have to choose something boring when going Derv. I don't expect it'll be particularly slow with the remap, either.

And the insurance hike for said remap is?

Not to bad actually about £160 Iirc. Not something I'm defo going to get done as the standard performance does me fine. Also won't get it done untill I've clocked up a few thousand miles. Nice to know the option is there though.

Isn't that car available with the really rather good 2 litre turbo petrol engine from the Golf GTi ? ...seems a shame not to have that if it is.

Isn't your car available with the really rather good 3 litre supercharged V8? ...seems a shame not to have that if it is. Etc...

Pointless really as there's usually a better engine, doesn't make it the right choice for the individual.

No it's not, it is however available with a 4.2 V8 N/A ...and in R and Super V8 form is available with a 4.2 V8 Supercharged.

The only reason I bought the V6 is because it was £2.5-£3k cheaper than I could get a V8 for, and when you are talking about cars in the £10l or less bracket, that's a massive difference.

In the case of the Scirocco here, the base price of a 170PS Scirocco TDI is £23,440 and the base price of the 210PS Sciroco 2.0 TSI is £23,615 ...so hardly any differance at all. Hence me enquiring as to why the diesel was chosen when the petrol engine is widely regarded as being so good. I did not know the op would pay such a massive premium on his insurance for it, I suspected it was mainly down to fuel economy.

The total cost of my insurance policy is considerably less than the differance in his policy between the diesel and petrol. Again, I could not have even begun to have known that would be the case.

So stop being such an *** about it. Your post was absolutely pointless though, just taking a shot at me for no apparent reason.

Don't be so precious. If you reads things properly rather than wading in with the very-much-standard 'shoulda got a GTi engine', you may avoid such responses.

I'm clocking 18000 miles p/year minimum

...which makes the diesel choice very much fair enough, and everyone knows these engines easily remap to 200bhp +.

Finally, the 2.0 petrol turbo is only available in manual guise on the Scirocco...maybe he wanted a DSG box? Pure speculation, but at least I'm considering everything.

HTH

You really are on form today, earning yet another gold star in being an ***.

To cover 18k a year, at say 30mpg in the petrol and 40mpg in the diesel, using 115.6 p/l as an average petrol price and 118.2 p/l as an average diesel price would yield a cost differance of about £735.

Significant I'll grant you, not enough to persuade me to buy the diesel instead mind. However it did BauerCTU though, however I suspect that was combined with the further £800 he saves on his insurance ... of course I can see why he did it when all the numbers are laid out.

And I don't know what you can map those VAG diesels too, I don't pay any attention to them really so I didn't know they can easily be remapped to 200bhp+ ...I could have guessed that though ...but you aren't going to be doing that until it's out of warranty in all likelihood.

Face it, you're just been an *** for the hell of it.

So when you question his engine choice it's fair enough, when I make the point that all factors should be considered when questioning an engine choice, I'm being a '***'.

You're one seriously fragile guy!

Incidentally, warranty's not a problem with the remaps as they're now mostly designed to be undetectable at the flick of a switch.

It's not you wanting to consider all factors that's the problem, it's the way you post it, the way you come across. I've seen plenty enough of your posts over the years to have a good idea about what you're really doing. You're just having a jab, being a smart **** ...as Pete said, you can scarcely help yourself.

But if caught by the manufacturer, it'll void the warranty right?

Yes.

It's the internet, I haven't yet found a way to impart a tone to text, so stop always thinking the worst and taking things so seriously.

If I come across as a smart arse then I can't help it! Shall I use more smilies to avoid hurting your feelings?

;) :D :) :p

Eek, guys let's all get along I'm all for a debate but civilised one though :-).

I think it was valid to quesition my engine choice in an ideal world I'd had 110% gone for the 210 bhp petrol engine. The cost extra p/y with fuel insurance I estimated it to be not far from £2000 extra every year which I personally couldn't justify. I'm really happy with my choice as it's all horses for courses really I drove the a3, 1 series etc and decided the rocco was for me.

From what I've seen robbie is correct they come with a switch.

You aren't hurting my feelings, I'm not that sensitive. Just annoying me really. Lots of things and lots of people annoy me though, so don't feel too special.

Anyway neither of us are contributing to this thread in any meaningful way now. So I'm not going to engage on this matter any further, indeed I wouldn't be surprised if our last few posts are deleted.

New Car.

First time posting in this section, so Hello All. :)

Thinking of buying a Coupe SIII 2.0 Auto, in black / red leather, 35K on a 56 plate for £7,500, previously a Mobility car.

Does it seem reasonable?
