I love the front of the C30...but really dislike the back of it. It looks like they just got lazy. :(

Well the rear of the car is very Marmite. The reason that styled it like that was to make it look reminiscent of the P1800ES and 480. I personally like it.

Quite a fan of the C30, what do you make of it overall? Which engine does it have in?

Overall I think it is quite a good but like every car it has it's upsides and downsides. Its not a traditional hatchback in the sense of practicality. The hatch for the boot is small and oddly shaped and there isn't a massive amount of leg room for rear passengers. The seat are very, very comfortable and the rear seats are exactly the same as the fronts. The car is put together very well and I haven't had anything break at all on it in the time I have owned it and as with all Volvo's it is very safe, see my post here.

Mine has the old 2 litre diesel engine in it, which is supposed to be much better then the replacements Volvo are putting the C30 currently. It puts out 136 bhp and 236 lb-ft of torque so its not amazingly fast with a 0 - 60 time of 9.1 seconds. Its much better when you have a rolling start and it is quite good between 30mph - 60mph but again, nothing to set your pants on fire. Handling is really this cars biggest downfall. The stock tyres/wheels are not really wide enough and it is quite easy to get under-steer from it if you push it round a corner. I currently have 8 inch wide wheels on it and this really improves the handling. I get about 45 - 47 mpg out of it but on long journeys it is easily getting 55+ so it is quite good in that department. Oh and it looks pretty :D.

I guess it is the perfect car for someone who is young and doesn't need a massively practical car but wants something that is comfortable and relatively cheap to run. That said I am looking at changing it in the next 6 months as I want something that is a bit more fun to drive :p.

Last night I found out I had No locking wheel nut bit,
I got up early this morning & went down my mates tyre & exhaust centre to borrow some tools, He had a removal socket with reverse thread that I tapped on & span the lockers off with, Turned from a nightmare into an easy job with the right tools & as I did it myself there's no damage to my wheel paint.
Speaking to people in the know apparently sticking 16's back on will improve the handling no end so I'm going to keep my eye out for some decent Ford 16's & sell the 18's on.
I have to admit that this old Escort has grabbed me big style, It goes like stink, Handles brilliantly & has loads of character, I'm in Love. :o

Went to Leicester today to get my alarm re certified, Turns out it has a Thatcham 1 on it so well worth doing as I now have a certificate to send off to my insurers & one to keep with the other paperwork. Took about an hour & cost 50 quid which will come back via Insurance savings.

New spark plugs today, woot.

I'd want to know why 1 of those plugs is oiled up.

Update on mine.

Chuffed to bits today.
Was down my mates tyre/exhaust centre to use a ramp at 5 to 8am, In the back of my mind was how the underneath was for rot but as I'm in Love I had already decided that if there was rot then I'd strip the rear axle out, make some plates (1 of my Fave past times :o) & stitch her back together again, Yes I was expecting the worse.
Anyway up on the ramp & me & my mate went all over it & it's Solid. There is absolutely nothing that needs welding & the underseal that's on is still good, To say I was surprised & chuffed is a major understatement.
I went around the rest of the motor once all wheels were up & all I could find was a slightly on the way out off side rear wheel bearing. I could tell the car was good when I viewed it but I couldn't be sure of the under side without it being up on a ramp, Now I am just Amazed at how good this old Escort is.
My mates place is chokka at the mo so I'm booked in for some Ramp time Tuesday to do the bearing other than that nowt needs doing. I've driven it enough now to be confident with the engine/box/clutch & now I've been underneath I know that to be just as good as the rest of the car.
All there is to do now is go to meets/shows & enjoy & in time I'll gradually mint the body up.
This RS is now in safe & loving hands. :p
