The whole "not bad because I am "X" age" typically doesn't mean so much these days given how easily finance is available to obtain.

When I look back when I lived at home and was earning decent money by outgoings were practically £0 which could have given me access so a whole host of cars on finance. It's a lovely car but I'd be very surprised if that cost £31k cash.

I couldnt afford the projectors, pushed my budget over what i had to spend anyway with what it has.

list price on the car was 31k

You had £31,000 which you could justify spending on a diesel hatchback and you... couldnt afford projector lights?

What?

How does that even work?

it doesn't work for a thinking person but it does for someone who rushes things and then pays the price for doing so.

Tough crowd. At least its the right colour, eh chaps?

I have never been a fan of the 1 series personally, but financal considerations aside, it must be nice to own a new BMW at your age. Congrats.

At 24 I had a Lambretta and a knackered 10 year old Saab 900

Indeed, which is why I said financials aside. For all we know he has that too ;)
Really not comfortable discussing someone elses finances when its based only on assumptions though.. But it always seems to come down to that here.

I bought new aswell, but I have not regretted doing so.

Id rather have the coupe, are they similar money?

The Coupe is a much older car, it's a first gen 1 Series. You need to be certifiably insane to buy a new 1 Coupe now, at least the 5 door hatch is an all-new car.

£1100 AFAIK.

But it also includes things like rain sensing wipers and auto dimming rear view mirror, which are shocking omissions from the standard equipment list IMHO, a 1999 Peugeot 206 had rain sensing wipers for goodness sake!

I did say the list price was 31k, didn't pay that, haggled discount and indeed is financed. I had a budget in mind and went over that to get the 125d not the 120d. Xenons weren't on the top of my list, I did get upgraded leather, heated seats, sun protection glass, extended storage and interior lighting, cruise control and parking sensors, also went for the upgraded sound system too, all of which make it a nicer place to be inside the car where you spend all your time :-)

All in all I didn't get top spec and I will be handing the car car in trade for something of higher spec next time round when I have a bit more cash to put down.

I went from a previous shape 1 series 120d with negative equity to this so wasn't in a great position to start maxing the options on the car, ideally I'd have spent an extra £100 a month and got all the toys but wasn't within my budget.

The car is not to all tastes but it's NEW and it's a car I wanted, returned 55mpg cruising at 70 and will give me 0-60 in 6.5s when I want also.

Thanks for the comments I do believe there was 1 or 2 positive ones there somewhere.
