I must state my admiration for that setup, very nice and professionally done.

A few questions if I may. I tried FSX about a year ago, since then I have slowly been upgrading and buying bits to make it more immersive as I am thoroughly enjoying the experience. Sofar I got Saitek X52 and TrackIR, as well as an OCUK Sugo Intel gamers PC (which runs FSX nicely but still not as smoothly as I would have hoped) and a 40'' Sony X3000 LCD.

After seeing your setup I am seriously considering the Saitek range, ie yoke quadrant and pedals. Is it really worth it? Considering that range is @2 years old and is still pretty pricey. Also been looking at the Saitek Pro Flight Switch Panel which is more recent, any opinions on that maybe? Also, I presume you must be using a Matrox Triplehead2 go (digital or analog?) for the 3 screen, been considering that as well, but with TrackIR and a 40'' LCD Im not sure if the triplehead would be a better choice but still, I would like to hear your opinion on your experience of the triplehead.

Last but not least, I am very curious about the large grey panel system that seems to be just underneath your monitors. I presume its an AP panel, fully intergrated with FSX? Again, your opinion on that item would be appreciated and perhaps a URL where I could find info/purchase it, as OCUK dont stock that item. Also whats the panel between the Saitek yoke and your quadrant, seems like its a COMs unit for FSX?

Sorry for all the questions, but your setup has given my enthusiasm for FSX emmersion and enjoyment a big boost.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer.

Cheers

Soya

BTW is your keyboard ontop of the Saitek yoke base held there by blutac? :):)

Hi Soya

I wandered how long it would be before somebody spotted the blu-tak. I really must find something better hey??

The saitek yoke, quadrant and peddals are brilliant if you like flying propeller or big jet aircraft. Cant imagine they would feel as good as a joystick for a fighter jet sim, but for flying something like a 747 the yoke is much, much better and a lot more realistic. I can be a lot more precise with the yoke, and the throttle quadrant is also great. You can assign the axis to whatever you want, so i have one for the throttle, one for flaps and one for speedbrake, as well as various other buttons for other functions. In my opinion the saitek pro flight range is the best out there for the money, and way better than the ch products yoke.

I have the digital triple head and really enjoy the extra peripheral vision that this gives me over a widescreen monitor, might not be for everybody, but i dont think i have read of anybody by a TH2GO then taking it back because they didnt like what it did. Despite what some people say though, i think performance is effected by the TH2GO, so that is a consideration.

The panel and radio comms units are by a company called Goflight http://www.goflightinc.com/order/index.php who do i wide range of these add-on modules. The large panel is an MCP PRO which is a scale replica of part of the auto-pilot module in the likes of a 747/767, and is brilliant. I have also added to this the EFIS module. The radio unit is a GF-46 which can be programmed to perform a number of different functions and is really good value. I found it a real pain on vatsim to be having to go to the radio stack window all the time to change frequencies/squawk code etc. and can now do all of this and more from this one unit. They arfent terribly chaep, but are a big help, and are better prices than some equivellent products out there. All thes things really help with the emersion in the game.

If i can be of any further help, dont hesitate to ask.

Thanks for your reply Parxuk, that is valuable information to me.

I think I will definitely get the Saitek Pro range, just need to shop around for a good price, OCUK seems to be out of stock anyways. Just one thing that worries me a little. After doing some checking on the Saitek range, as well as the Go Flight range, esp the MCP Pro, I am worried about compatibility. I presume all your hardware runs fine on FSX? I use Vista 64, just need to make sure that won't cause a problem. I did read in a few forums that some hardware addons to FSX like the Saitek range, although works fine with all detault aircrafts, it has a lot of trouble working with 3rd party addon aircrafts. Now I use a lot of freeware and payware aircraft addons, any ideas if your Saitek & MCP Pro works fine with other craft apart from default planes?

I think I will give TH2GO a miss for now, happy with TrackIR and the 40'' LCD but maybe next year. But the MCP Pro looks fantastic and if you say its brilliant and have no compatibility problems with other aircrafts then I think I may put that on my wish list too :). (and perhaps the GF-46 too, that is, once I can afford it :))

Thanks again, look forward to your reply.

Soya

PS. I discovered this just yesterday, you may not have seen this yet, http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1236299941, havent had a chance to test it to see if it indeed makes a difference, but from reading the forum on that, looks like many people seem to find it very useful.

Have been using that tweak for about 2 weeks now, and it is the single best tweak found for FSX. I did used to get a problem with stuttering when using high gfx settings, but this has cured it. If the tweak inventor were next to me i would give him a kiss, its that great.

Dont think you will have any compatibility issues with the Saitek gear, all seems to work fine. Obviously shop around for the best deals. I got the peddals from a well known e-tailer that i think is based in France for a very good price (something to do with a pixy)

The MCP PRO is NOT going to work for every aircraft out there. It does work with all the default FSX aircraft. It works with add-ons like the Wilco 737. The leveld 767 (which is all i fly, its just incredible). The PMDG 747 can also be flown with the MCP PRO, but requires the purchase of a seperately available bit of interface software, which costs about £50 (i think). Do make sure that your favourite AC workds with the MCP, but it will transform your flight sim experience. There can be workarounds like using the registered version of FSUIPC for its mouse macro capability, or the key mapper programs, dont know how great these work though for everything.

Have used the units on XP32 and 64, and Vista 64 with no issues at all.

Cant blame you sticking with the single 40" monitor. Its horses for courses, you could do with demoing one sometime though.

This was my gaming machine with a 22" LCD:

This is it with the new 24" LCD:

This is my other two machines with their old LCD set up:
