***Sid Meier's Civilization VII***

By best do you mean as in best for a new player because it was dumbed down so much?
6 (with a few mods and all the DLC) presents a lot of information upfront, making it a very easy 4X game to see a path from start to finish. It was a lot of fun in that regard but also lacks some surprise, an old mate of mine used to hate the last 1/3rd of the game because you could see you won and there wasn't much joy in playing it out for him, which a few thousand hours in I can see.

An hour into 7 and I can see I haven't scratched the surface of how it play, which is nice, it needs more time and attention to really enjoy the empire you build.

How many hours does a campaign normally take? depends on diff I guess.

Can't speak to the latest version, but in older Civs, if you started in the morning after breakfast you could finish by bedtime.

Who ever designed this 7 UI needs to be shot.
It looks utterly childish.

I feel like I'm playing in 800x600 at 1440p

Upscaling?

A proper game tomorrow

Turning off the high resolution UI (or whatever its called in the options) helps a bit, still a crap UI but makes it a bit more tolerable

Feels like a very streamlined / dumbed down for console 4 X game. The UI is clunky and uninformative. Combat is slow and tedious ; on one hand it's great you have army commanders acting as generals to "round up" the troops and move them en masse, but the commander himself moves at a snail's pace across the map. Will need to play more to experience what transitioning from age to age feels like. Not convinced by the devs decision to make the player choose a leader which often has zero connection to the civilisations you play throughout the game ... feels jarring to me.
