Hmm my thoughts on the game - overall good so far but theres a couple of big issues that I think are gonna cause it to have problems regards longetivity (though Ive only played Domination atm)...
Deffo can feel like your in a big war when you parachute in as you notice little pockets of battles across the map. Though even with 256 players last night I generally saw the same enemies and players since my squad was tasked to do certain things and therefore an enemy squad was tasked to do the opposite. So irrelevant of how many players were on the server you will end up playing squad v squad for the majority of the time until you converge for the end battle IF you ever get there (though that may not be the final aim for Domination - never got past the first objective to find out)...
Straght away I noticed this game needs proper teamwork - its very easy to kill people and be killed (Stella remember the whining Americans
) before you even reach your objective. The simple reason is that there are so many enemies around you that you just cant cover every angle on your own and thats just to survive. Health is quite difficult to administer in the heat of battle (L2 twice then R1) and you have to upgrade to help fallen comrades. Even when you have a good squad working together it seems that on Domination you are tasked with 2 objectives per platoon, so 8 in all for your 128 player side.
Now the major concern for me is that defending is FAR FAR more easier than attacking (its stupid how hard it is to take an objective and hold it with enemies spawning far nearer it than you do when you die) so even with a good squad/platoon you may take your 2 objectives, but I just cant see that happening across the whole side to take 8 and actually win (perhaps you only need to hold the majority of them tho?). So I do have some concerns that unless your whole side is working together on Domination as the attacking team you will always fail.
Graphics wise its not the best, but I wasnt expecting it to be due to the player number support. Everything does sound great but explosions and the like seem feeble, when you get a grenade thrown at you - good luck noticing where it lands and getting out of its way. HUD and map needs some time to understand as its very hard to know once you get to your objective exactly what you meant to be doing until you 'fall' over it...
Apart from that the game does feel like Joint Operations on a massive scale, upgrades seem to help, and its going to be a beta I will dedicate my time to. Just dont expect this to be a run and gun like COD4 - its not very pick up and play if you intend to win rather than just to kill a few people. I think Ill buy it but need to see who else is as theres little point for me unless I have a few squad of good players to play with - stuff like deathmatch has always bored me...
P.S. Comms is a must for this game - last night reminded me how useful it was. When your down you can still see around you and warn your squadmates where enemies are until you bleedout. Very useful if u spot an annoying sniper...
