Downloaded it all last night so it will be tonight before I get in the thick of it. Does anyone know if it will be a retail release or just a direct download ?

Hmm my thoughts on the game - overall good so far but theres a couple of big issues that I think are gonna cause it to have problems regards longetivity (though Ive only played Domination atm)...

Deffo can feel like your in a big war when you parachute in as you notice little pockets of battles across the map. Though even with 256 players last night I generally saw the same enemies and players since my squad was tasked to do certain things and therefore an enemy squad was tasked to do the opposite. So irrelevant of how many players were on the server you will end up playing squad v squad for the majority of the time until you converge for the end battle IF you ever get there (though that may not be the final aim for Domination - never got past the first objective to find out)...

Straght away I noticed this game needs proper teamwork - its very easy to kill people and be killed (Stella remember the whining Americans :p) before you even reach your objective. The simple reason is that there are so many enemies around you that you just cant cover every angle on your own and thats just to survive. Health is quite difficult to administer in the heat of battle (L2 twice then R1) and you have to upgrade to help fallen comrades. Even when you have a good squad working together it seems that on Domination you are tasked with 2 objectives per platoon, so 8 in all for your 128 player side.

Now the major concern for me is that defending is FAR FAR more easier than attacking (its stupid how hard it is to take an objective and hold it with enemies spawning far nearer it than you do when you die) so even with a good squad/platoon you may take your 2 objectives, but I just cant see that happening across the whole side to take 8 and actually win (perhaps you only need to hold the majority of them tho?). So I do have some concerns that unless your whole side is working together on Domination as the attacking team you will always fail.

Graphics wise its not the best, but I wasnt expecting it to be due to the player number support. Everything does sound great but explosions and the like seem feeble, when you get a grenade thrown at you - good luck noticing where it lands and getting out of its way. HUD and map needs some time to understand as its very hard to know once you get to your objective exactly what you meant to be doing until you 'fall' over it...

Apart from that the game does feel like Joint Operations on a massive scale, upgrades seem to help, and its going to be a beta I will dedicate my time to. Just dont expect this to be a run and gun like COD4 - its not very pick up and play if you intend to win rather than just to kill a few people. I think Ill buy it but need to see who else is as theres little point for me unless I have a few squad of good players to play with - stuff like deathmatch has always bored me...

P.S. Comms is a must for this game - last night reminded me how useful it was. When your down you can still see around you and warn your squadmates where enemies are until you bleedout. Very useful if u spot an annoying sniper...

ps3ud0

Still a few bugs in the game also, there was quite a few times last night where i couldnt heal or revive some people, also there are some points in 1 of the maps that can be glitched i think, as i heard quite a few ppl in my squad complain about enemines comming straight thru walls.

Is there a good guide to the game? Ive ranked to level 10 and i've been wondering about some of the more complex parts to the game now:
+ Command abilities
+ Repair and Medical upgrades
+ Clan and group system
+ Ranking and respecing
+ Objectives
All these things are not always very clear.
That and and the really need to allow more customisation of controls, I want more sensitivty and to be able to shoot with R2 not R1.

Can someone who played SOCOM tell me if you could change controls like that as its another Zipper game.

Who,s on at 6pm then it is certainly worth teaming up before we join a match ?

Them pesky american,s always shouting down headsets gave me a bit of a headache ,not sure if there is a option to mute ?
Yeah and also me and polymonial both used usb type headsets last night and the comms were top notch ;)

It's the perfect power trip. I had one on last night "This is your captain speaking." Then proceeding to bark orders. I took great pleasure in doing exactly the opposite. I think to mute you have to point at someone in your crosshairs and press the Right D-pad button until the Mute option comes up.

I will be on soon, just waiting for my tea to be done then I'm on. Looking forward to squadding up, I also have comms ;)

Well this is crap so far, every time I get on the loading screen it freezes then after a min it says connection lost...thrown back to the main menu.

The spawn points are simply too far away from action. When you die it can take a minute or two to get back to where you were.

Being a medic is useless as nobody waits for bleedout and if they do, you have no indication of how far away from you they are. Repairman seems better.

Ok after a couple of rounds I think the game is good. But with the following thoughts. You in no way get the idea you are playing with 255 (or even 127) other people. As already been said because of the squad system you always see the same team mates and enemies... so making the 256 players online at once a bit pointless. You have to be in a squad it seems. I would prefer the option to go lone wolf once in a while and just go for kills rather than the objectives... of which I didn't have the slightest clue as to what I was supposed to do... so I did what any noob would do and run round shooting everyone and anything that looked like it would react to bullet being fired into it!

Comms are much better than say BF1943 which is broken beyond belief! The graphics are quite good but again as already said the explosions are poor.

All in all the 256 players in a game thing is NOT a selling point for me. Modern Warfare 2 will probably be similar if not better... we will see.
