Significant incident Plymouth

I mean, I don't live in a city, but I'm going through the process of getting a firearms licence, why? Because I enjoy shooting, and because I want to.

And that is within the scope of the law. I don’t think it should be. You can shoot without having a licence, you can use a club gun. There’s no reason to own the gun in your case.

How thick are news reporters? At least 4 reporters have asked if one of the females was his mother and the guy answering has repeatedly said he won't comment on any relationship.

Pump action shotgun used apparently.

A number of people claiming to be his neighbours were posting on his Facebook page last night and a few said they were aware of him having mental health issues. How does someone like that get a firearms license?

I live in a city. I’d own a gun if I could, I find them interesting, as I do swords.

People will always kill people regardless of guns. You can quite easily take out a few people with a big knife. Can’t ban them can we.

Sounds like a waste of time presenting any reasons when you demand they fit your opinion of reasonable and of course pigeon-holes anyone replying as an "advocate".

But lets use a very small amount of thought and go with:

Expense, accessibility, availability, security and practicality (for example, what is this assumption about a range?)

I imagine if the law changed to mandate keeping guns at the range then security at the range will be increased.
I don’t think accessibility is a question - you can get the gun when the range is open. If someone owns a race car, they can use it when the track is open.
Availability? Well, supply and demand applies there.

I’ve not demanded anything. I’ve asked why people need to own a gun in a city. People say “to shoot at a range”. I, and others, have asked why the gun can’t be stored there. Hardly pigeon holing anything there.

Always odd how the media plaster the face of the killer all over the place and go on about him as if he's some kind of counter-culture champion.

Don't think my club or the police would be happy about me taking their (unsuitable) firearms out of the club to take them to UKPSA matches. Nor would I be happy about leaving my own potentially £3,000+ firearm in their custody permanently.

As a South African from Joburg, who's been on the receiving end of a few firearm incidents, including looking straight down the barrel of an AK with a very high and desperate man on the other side (never shot luckily), I can tell you for 100% certain that you don't want guns in the general populace. You must be absolutely mental if you think that'll bring more good than harm.

why not? if it's secured properly and you have access to it as and when you want it what would be the issue. personally i'd be overjoyed that someone else would be responsible for keeping my £3k+ gun safe and sound. cause if they don't they are responsible for dealing with the fallout rather than me.

Yes the guy who makes videos calling himself a "terminator" really shouldn't be alowed a gun

I watched that last video of his before the channel was deleted and he wasn't using that term with regard to guns or killing people, he was using it with regard to never giving up with his struggles with life i.e. like a machine who is beaten down but just keeps getting back up, type of thing.

As soon as I heard him say 'terminator' I thought that'll more than likely be what people/media latch on to - https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/plymouth-gunman-calls-himself-ugly-24751678

Always odd how the media plaster the face of the killer all over the place and go on about him as if he's some kind of counter-culture champion.

Every time there's another gutless killer like this twit, or another terrorist attack, the experts come out appealing for the media not to name them, not to show their face, not to spend ages pawing over their inevitable manifesto or pre-killing video. Every time they don't listen.

because there won't be a reasonable reason apart from some random strange outlier that they will eventually grab on to and argue to exhaustion as a reason for everyone in a city to own a gun.

Oh look you made your argument hyperbolic, I wonder why

Telegraph purposely taking his Terminator comment out of context to sex up their headline.....yawn.

RIP to the innocent people involved, shocking, sickening and just utterly depressing :(

Oh look you made your argument hyperbolic, I wonder why
oh look, you're argument has no legs so you're going to try and prattle on now about hyperbole. i wonder why. hyperbole has it's place, the exaggeration is to highlight the point. trying to act the smart arse won't detract from the reality that there is very little reason for someone living in a city to own a firearm. - edit - i mean to keep a firearm in their own home.

What if I want to go grouse shooting or game hunting? Am I not allowed to leave my city? Can I only do those things if I live in the country?

Be interesting to know how he got the gun. I can’t really think of any reason anyone in a city, least of all a crane operator, needs a gun.

Hopefully further limitations on gun ownership follow this like they did from Dunblane.

Obviously the above is assuming he legally owned one.

Well the police have announced an enquiry into him having a firearms licence so I presume the gun was legal.

that's fine. but keep the firearm at a registered gun club. for sporting/pleasure use i believe firearms should not be allowed to be kept in the home. for farming/pest control reasons then that is fine. at least in my opinion.
