Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Where was the wand from Dave? I think I have one on my classic but I'm not actually sure which it is. Does it a have a little bulb at the end you can unscrew?

My latte art however is improving impeccably :D I'm not sure whether it's a tree or a phallus :D

Amazon for £11. Yes it is one with the unscrewable bulb at the bottom and rubber collar. My second effort went a little better but was a bit too foamy. It's amazing how easy the paranello made things. But I see this effort worth it for the next machine what ever that may be.

So I picked my latest ebay purchase up last week. Only just fit in the boot of the car. :D

Large chunk of shiny. Needs a damn good clean and service, but is complete with 2 portafilters and the original documentation. Also came with a Vario grinder which also needs a service, and likely a replacement motor.

The Vario grinder is a very easy thing to work on though. Surprisingly quick to strip down to components.

The machine is a Quick Mill Andreja Premium, standard e61 group so it's really easy to service and the parts are sensible prices. Not actually done anything to it yet, don't have space in the kitchen. Hence the photo of it in the hall. :D It's to go into our new house. I have a area of the kitchen that's separate from the rest and has it's own sink. Coffee area! :D

Looking forward to taking it apart and giving it a clean.

Well for the Coffee Lovers out their.

I do love my Mocha(mainly via Costa) and Azure Nescafé for instant.

I now want to start doing it better!

1- do i spend £100 on ...

Andrew James Premium Programmable Chrome Filter Coffee Maker With Integrated Bean Grinder Includes Reusable Filter

And buy some nice coffee beans ofc a step up from Instant

Or

2- A coffee Grinder and a Moka Pot

Any help would be great :)

I see quite a few of you have or used a Gigga Classic - there are some on eBay! Still worth getting??

Could stretch to £300

Depends what you want.

Start off cheap, aeropress + hand grinder (hario will do). Spend some money on some decent beans.

If you wanna go the espresso route a Classic is a good 'gateway', but you'll need a grinder too to get the most out of it.

I do love my Mocha and white coffee.

Shall take a look at Aeropress.

If you're gonna turn it in to a mocha it probably doesn't matter what beans you throw in it.

For the white coffee (guessing it's a mug of black coffee with a dash of milk) the beans will make helluva difference if you buy fresh and grind them yourself. Or even pre-ground but from a proper roaster.

Have a look at HasBean, Rave (cheaper) or try and find a local roaster. There's a independent coffee shop called Nelson Coffee Co near you (if your location is right) - maybe pop in and have a chat with Ben.

Mp4, unless you're made of money I wouldn't blow £300 on coffee equipment 'to get you started'. Running a fully-fledged espresso machine is a fair amount of hassle (cleaning, practice etc.). It's not a plug-in and go, like magic you have better coffee. It's a skill to learn, a skill to practice and improve on.

As I did in the other thread, I'd highly recommend an aeropress and a grinder. Either something like the Baratza Encore if you want electric, or simply a hand grinder. Hario or Porlex.

To be perfectly frank if your taste barometer is mochas from Costa and instant coffee, who knows if you even like proper coffee?

Thanks Ducky shall look at hasbean.

And Scam Mocha is only a choice when out and about normally , white flat, coffee white. Expresso on the go sometimes.

I use to use beans & cafetière and enjoyed that at the time.

De'Longhi KG79 Professional Burr Grinder I'll probably order.

You'll get a better grind from a decent hand grinder at that price range than you will from the KG79, tbh. You'll also get RSI and a lot of stern looks from anyone in the vicinity when you grind, but hey, that's part of the charm.

Shame about the blade grinder. Personally wouldn't even open the box and try to swap it for a burr grinder. Just for the consistency. Even with a cheap burr grinder you'll get better results.

I'll see about the grinder, don't want to disappoint the Mrs after she's bought it etc. And can't return it as it smells of coffee!

I'll get a prolex though if I do get one :)

Or Hario Medium Glass Hand Coffee Grinder with Ceramic Burrs

Signed up to Rave :)
