Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm even more confused now than when I started as what to get haha. Guess I've got some more research and stuff to do, I will look at the grinder stuff you guys mentioned :) Thank you

Seen this one mentioned in the other thread, has anyone used one? Would it be worth paying the extra (like £800 total) for this? http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/home...ines/1403349/melitta-caffeo-barista-ts-review

I've had the Sage Barista express from John Lewis backed up with additional 3 year warrenty to make it 5 years of covered usage.

Pull brilliant coffee and requires a tiny bit of practice, I think the majority of the taste comes from decent beans. Highly recommended maybe wait for black friday?

Hi mate, thank you for that. Good idea, it's only 9 days away isn't it so I think I'll wait out for a little bit!

Where do you get your coffee beans from out of interest mate?

Also I'm mainly an Americana type drinker and I can see there are awesome looking espresso glasses but are there any awesome looking Americana glasses?

Thanks :D

The only place I've used is coffee-direct I think it was and got that Kopi cat **** coffee (apparently from non farmed source, organic non cruelty etc) but feel it's wasted being used in a some £5 coffee making machine -.-

Kopi Luwak is gimmick coffee tbh. The stuff that's made it famous is so expensive that whatever crap they ship at reasonable prices is terrible. Go for any of the ones in Flibster's list, read the cupping notes and see what tickles your fancy. Remember that what it says isn't necessarily what it will taste like, but is a good way of finding (or avoiding them!) similar coffee in future sales.

Ok mate that's a fair one. Thank you :)

Also what are some really nice expresso/Americano glasses? I kind of look the clear see through ones but I wanna get a few nice ones :D Think I'm getting the Sage Barista express but will see if any deals can be had on Black Friday.

Espresso.... ;)

Inker do some really nice espresso cups, I've got a few but no longer use them as I've sold my La Pavoni, they really are top quality -thick walled.

On a side note, unless you're going to drink a lot of espresso, I'd try going brewed for the 'long drinks' rather than americano.

It's a) easier and b) brings out different (imo: better) flavours from the beans.

You can try this for around £20 with an easy aeropress set up.

Glass wise, anything Bodum from Amazon will do. Double walled is probably best. I use one of the Diner cups from Hasbean for the majority of my brewed drinks.

HTH!

The Mrs bought one of these yesterday...

She wanted to start having nicer filter coffee at work but didnt want the faff of an aeropress. She seems to be getting on well with it so far!

Yeh serves the purpose fine it seems, is more compact than the aeropress and is cheaper too. Wins all round.

I have one too, it's tat. Makes much worse brews than the aeropress, is a pain in the arse to clean and bits of ground coffee flow round the filter due to the design.

The worst thing is, after a while all your brews seem to get a 'plastic-y' taste to them, and it muddies everything. Definitely a no-no if you're spending the money on decent coffee. If you're just going to chuck preground taylors in to it, maybe it's fine.

It's ok for camping etc. but for everyday? Aeropress wins hands down.
