Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

How apt this thread is back at the top.

GOt some Brazil Cachoeira Canario today, ordered Espresso grind, but looks like I got beans!

Perhaps it's God's way of telling me to stop being a cheapskate and get a grinder!

Can anyone quickly suggest one I should get? One of the Zassenhaus models maybe?

I haven't opened the beans yet... should I whack the bag straight in the freezer?

I have a Gaggia classic.

Thanks

I had the Krups Burr grinder which was ok (and not a proper burr grinder) until I got a Zassenhaus for Christmas. So much better and more satisfying grinding the beans manually :).

depends how much you want to spend...

<£50 the Zassenhaus seem the best option - you can get older ones cheap on auction sites sometimes, but they are manual

~£60 the Dualit / starbucks one is the best option

~£100 the IC2 from Happy Donkey is very good

over £200 you can start looking at the mazzer mini second hand...

I had been looking at the doserless Rocky, but now I've finally decided to bite the bullet the prices have gone up quite a lot. It was £185ish at hasbean (who no longer do it) and I can get it now for £235. Fifty quid is a lot, so I was wondering whether to

1) try for a 2nd hand Mazzer
2) hold my breath and blame myself for not taking advantage of the exchange rate last year and get Rocky
3) get something else around the £150-185 mark.

Do you know how the Ibertal MC2 compares with the Rocky? I'd be very tempted to go for that, given the price

Email Steve at Hasbean, he is honest ! even when the answer means he loses a sale.

I have been watching this thread for ages and I eventually decided to go out and get some coffee equipment - no more instant/pre-ground for me!

I don't have much cash so I only ended up with a cheap Emide Burr Grinder and 3-cup Elia Cafetiere, I also got 100g of Australian Skybury and Pumphreys Special. I'm currently drinking a nice mug of Skybury and I must say it's much better than any other coffee I have had at home :)

Well you get what you pay for, but for a home user MC2 Auto really is pretty damn good, assuming you keep the blades in good nick then you cannot really go wrong mate. Seriously, You'd be a million times better of saving yourself £100 odd quid or however much and buying lots of nice coffee with it! (Or put it towards a machine if you don't have one!)

Got loads of second hand MC2 Autos at work if anyone is interested.

Domestic Gaggias have aluminium boilers, so you need to be careful what descaler you use. Citric acid descalers can rot the boiler. (which is partly why I got the Silvia - brass boiler)
So does anyone know where you can get a Rancillo Silvia in this country for a decent price?

Any place I see wants a hell of a lot of money for what is, put simply, a boiler in a nice case.

Quoted for truth.

I have an order from HasBean go missing in the post and it was replaced rapidly with no fuss, even though there was a chance the error may have been mine (which I did tell him).

Some of the best customer service I have ever had over the web.

Bingo - it's about the coffee... not the equipment!

my little set-up - I have little money,so the Krups must do it for me,eheheh
but my big problem is that I do not have a company like Hasbeans here,so I have to use normal coffee beans
