Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Guys,

I think one of my has bean orders has gone missing in the post. Its been 5 days now and the mail is crap around here.

Any ideas how they will react? and sort it out

sid
Yup, I had a set go missing and after waiting a few more days they sent me a new batch out with no hassle.

Top notch customer service.

Yup,

I've already had a prompt reply from Stephen who is going to send out another one tomorrow if it doesn't come. Its looking unlikely though tbh

Has Bean are fantastic. Really like the new website

Just making my way through some Nicaraguan Limoncillo at the moment. Possibly one of the best beans I've bought taste wise :)

Yet to try Australian Skyberry though. It seems to be getting good reviews

I think it's about time I gave my Gaggia and grinder a bit of a clean. I've had a look at the cleaning products on HasBean, but can anyone recommend some? The ones I'm looking at are Cafiza Espresso Machine Cleaner/Joe Glo Cleaning Powder 706g, and Grindz Grinder Cleaner 430g. Anygood?

I can vouch for the Cafiza as I use it myself (bought from Hasbean too) Really does a great job when backfluching and cleaning the grouphead.

Cant comment on the grinder cleaner though, but would be curious to hear some reports

after a bit of research into cleaning hand grinders i present grape nuts!

i will be running these through my zass hand grinder (once it turns up from germany)

i got a packet of grape nuts from tesco for £1.19 a pack with the intention of running 1/3 of a cup through the grinder once every 3 months.

was also looking at 'minute rice' but this is not readily available in uk. (btw ordinary rice is not recommended)

apparently this is great for cleaning grinders... really should do mine soon....

Just ordered a gaggia baby (the metal body one) and a decent tamper to replace my 6 year old used every single day delonghi machine.. cant wait

don't bother with grinder cleaner. Just make a note of where you are position wise, and use a decently stiff brush and strip it down and clean it that way. The grindz cleaners work ok ish but you can't substitute elbow grease

OMFG! Does claiming him also give you rights over his espresso gear? Damn you xarr! :D

On another topic, currently drinking: Ethiopia Harar from HasBean, and it's the best I've had in a while - dark and spicy, so much aroma that it took me 45' to drink a cup cause I spent too long just inhaling it! :p My breakfast this morning was a triple shot of that, 2 kiwis and some mature goat's cheese, and it's a killer combo! (blue cheese also works as long as it's not too salty)

Trust me if you new what I have access to reading your guys posts, you would be in seventh heaven.

I looked at that hasbean site. Just an observation, they got a very good selection of beans, however I have to say the cost per kilo is extremely high. I would expect it for some specialist beans, but some of there bog standard stuff is pretty high.

I've found sites where the beans cost less (Hill and Valley pops to mind, I ordered from them a couple of times 3 years ago), but they tend to charge more for shipping. I only tend to buy 250g at a time (500 max, otherwise it goes off even in a sealed bag), so Hasbean works out cheaper for me. RedMonkey is the only one who comes close afaik. Nevertheless, I've been ordering from Hasbean pretty much without even checking any other sites for a year or two now so if you know of anyone else who can beat their prices for small quantities you HAVE to speak up or Siliconslave will send the heavies round, and they have keyboards with nails sticking out of them! :p

Having just checked some of my old bookmarked sites, in fact, I was sad to see that one of them has ceased trading and another (Monmouth) has stopped selling online except wholesale. I hope HasBean doesn't run into similar problems.
