Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Been a long time since I've dropped in here but after ending up with some Taylors ground coffee from my Brother I've been playing with Russell Hobbs Kensington drip machine again. Too recap everything I made in there was always bitter which I had to dilute away with Milk. Then from here I learned the 60g to 1l and the coffee was much more palatable. So last weekend I've had 3 or 4 carafe of crappy filter coffee so I did some YouTube and found James Hoffman and a video of filter coffee hacks to make it taste better. I used two hacks in 1 and made the best coffee I've ever got out of this machine. One hack was to use hot water in the machine rather then letting the machine heat it and hack two which has the most potential was to bloom the grounds first, and I probably used too much water and also my fat spout kettle isn't ideal and I probably left it blooming too long, nevertheless it was a widely different tasting coffee. It wasn't a hot taste into a bitter end and there was actually a middle, a flavour I could hold and taste into a mild bitter taste on swallowing.

I picked up the Prof 600 pro last week and only just got a moment to play with it this morning, it's a striking piece of kit to use but not quite as convenient as the Oracle but a really refined e61 experience.

I've currently put it in my office for now but need to wriggle my way back into the kitchen.

Looking for some advice. The grinder on my barista express has bit the dust. I get zero grounds coming through on anything but the coarsest settings which is no good for me.

Now I could fart around changing the burrs and hope this works or I could look to get a separate grinder, something which has always been recommended to me as a solid upgrade.

Ideally I'd like to spend no more than 200, but the cheaper the better. Can you get a decent grinder for this price that would be significantly better than the grinder on the barista express (assuming I could fix it) or am I in dream land?
The Fellow Opus seems to get fairly decent reviews at that price point - I haven't used one though so can't attest.

It's likely the one I would go for though should the grinder in my oracle touch pack in

This is the one.

It's built much nicer than I expect for the money. Battery life is amazing. I don't think I've charged it once since owning it. I would say the nit pick would be the on/off switch feels cheap and the rubber cover slides around a bit.

I don’t understand the weighing of the beans malarkey, once you’ve got your grinder and machine dialled in, there’s simply no need?

It's all about accuracy and ratio. Especially for espresso, an extra gram of beans can choke a shot, especially if you use a basket that is design for certain amount of grind.

Also, there is also a timer, it detects flow and slow increase of weight and starts the timer automatically.

It's not something you use if you drink filter and make a batch for 4 in 1 go, it is if you make single cups, espresso and V60 mostly.
