Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

this is a case where your totally within your right to send it back to the seller and get a full refund, although if you got a decent deal on it you might be worth trying the warranty route. You may not get anywhere without a receipt however :(

As Raymon points out they are overly hard to work on once open so maybe take a butchers and see if its anything obvious

Found the problem, got it apart.

The part that is broke is part 8332003000, Part 60 on the parts manual.
Valve 11 Bar Assembly.

Any idea where I can get gaggia parts?

Can anyone on here draw a leaf on a latte?

I managed 3 on one at work the other day, but one is usually the norm :p

One day I shall not be a lowly student and be able to afford nice coffee equipment - but for now work's (M&S Café) shall do...

Latte art? Don't do it myself - don't do enough latte's to bother.
At the Cafe Culture in London next month the World Latte Art championship is taking place - I'll be watching that, as well as the Aeropress championship and the Barista championship.

Spending all 3 days there. :D

Monmouth Coffee on Monmouth Street is the one for me for filter coffee.
For espresso - Kaffeine, Gt. Titchfield Street wins.

I'm trying to get to Gwilym's coffee cart. Hopefully while he is still the 2009 Champion.

Monmouth Coffee beans are what Flat White/Milk Bar use.
I always pick up my beans from Monmouth, can't beat them.

Not my favourite beans, but certainly a great place. I really prefer their filter coffees to the espresso.
Will probably be heading there tomorrow for a large quantity of coffee. May stop off at Fernandez and Wells too - not been there before.

Whats a hardly used Rancilio Silvia worth? Not the latest version but as new condition.

Depends. £200-250 maybe.

Coffee provides caffeine - means we're able to concentrate and post for longer. ;)

YAY!

Gaggia classic turned up today from the bay, £140 and it looks brand new:)

Looks like I have a few pages to read now, questions are sure to follow!

I would recommend backflushing it with Puly Caff ASAP if it's second hand. Will get rid of all the oily residue which will be there if it's been used before.

Be interested to see how you get on with it. My espressos were terrible (although still made nicer drinks than most high street places) until I got my grinder last week. Slowly starting to get some decent ones now though...

Are there any decent pre-ground coffees available from the supermarket?

Not for espresso, just for a normal cup of medium strong coffee with milk. My sister bought me a coffee machine and Ive been trying different ground coffees each week from Tesco and a lot have tasted horrible. So far I think the Twinings one was the best.

I'll probably get a grinder and a better coffee machine in the future but this is ok for now. Makes a hot cup of coffee and is fairly quick. Just need to find a nice ground coffee to go with it.

if you have to buy pre-gound, I would go into starbucks and buy some beans and get them ground it right there and then re-seal.

At least you know it is freshly grounded, more than the ones in supermarkets.
