Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

So have been trying some of Small Batch coffee's Guatemala Santa Ana La Huerta and am not really sure what to make of it. The beans seem to be very muted in terms of flavour in a latte so I am wondering if this a bean better suited to filter or maybe straight up espresso (although I just haven't managed to find a bean that I like straight up). I'm not sure if I was expecting so much more from it as it sounded like it fits my taste profile being a bit more fruity rather than the usual nutty/chocolately taste profiles (which I like now and again but I do get really excited by the more unusual flavours - I know thats not to everyone's taste)
Maybe I will have to try some of the other beans to compare.

I always love the more mental coffee's (including naturals) from in my mug and I know Steve gets a lot of flak for these as they are an unusual taste but I just love exploring these more unusual and interesting coffee's. That's not to say that I have enjoyed all of them (not too fond of the red wine/boozy tasting beans) but love the more exotic flavours and always love it when a blueberry tasting coffee comes up.

So can anyone recommend something that will peak my interest that isn't from has bean. Am off to London in a couple of weeks for a week's training course so need to sort out a decent coffee shop(s) to visit. Will be near old street tube station.

Shorditch Grind, Look Mum No Hands, Workshop Coffee, Caravan, Prufrock, Department Of Coffee and Social Affairs

Could also try Ozone... But as much as I like the food and the building, can't say I'm a huge fan of their coffee.

so many places to go thanks Flibster.
Will try and visit some of those on my lunch breaks/ post training sessions. I may have to take my travel pack (porlex grinder, coffee beans, kantan filters) with me as I know the training center will only have that brown watery instant stuff.

Well, my gaggia classic replacement arrived and it doesn't have a leaky wand - woo.

Here is my setup currently:-

I usually have some espresso cups on top but I was tinkering inside today so I moved them into cupboard temporarily.

It can be turned into doser less fairly easily however I quite like the doser. It stops grounds from going everywhere and also declumps the grounds.

I initially went for this model as it was a good price but I think my next grinder may be doserless (quamar m80e).

I need to get a replacement doser for my rocky (2011 model), can anyone recommend a good place to get the parts and would it be fairly easy to fit myself. It looks like it would be just a couple of catches and then it just snaps in place.

It can be turned into doser-less fairly easily however I quite like the doser. It stops grounds from going everywhere and also declumps the grounds.
I have the doserless version and I use the yoghurt pot mod (a trimmed yoghurt pot used as a funnel for grinding directly into the basket) to prevent spillage of the coffee, and I remove the clumps using a skewer (swirling the coffee grounds round). A very slight inconvenience, but it removes the possibility of wasted coffee in the doser. It's all down to personal preference I guess :).

To be honest I wouldn't mind either way. I see what you mean about wasted coffee but to be fair the mignon Doser is fairly clean so I would say no more than maybe half a gram if that is kept in the doser - very clean sweep.

It is a silvia steam wand, and I currently have the steam wand. Anyone wanting it sent on should contact hamster and then I'll send it on following his instruction.

Well today has been an interesting day in London. Popped into Ozone Roasters for a latte which was very nice and smooth and then later had a filter coffee in Salvation Jane which was a very nutty taste, so I am guessing it was South American maybe Bolivian or Brazillian. Then again it could have been something completely different to fox my taste buds :)

ordered myself one of the squaremile griffin t-shirts the other day along with a coffee restock:

which turned up yesterday, unfortunately it seems they managed to give me three things bags of coffee instead of 2 coffee 1 t shirt:

The right hand one doesn't grind very well though

Would the bay be the best place to sell an iberital mc2 guys? I'm guessing so but haven't seen many on there, although there is currently 1 on now.
