Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

I’ve been looking at a new coffee machine and obviously budget creep has happened.

Has anyone bought from the eBay refurbished site for sage coffee machines?

I’ve been looking at an oracle jet (such as https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/33578279...ar=545311639643&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY )

The following are missing:
Water Filter,
Descaling Powder,
Grind Outlet Brush & Tamp Removal Magnet,
Cleaning Brush,
Steam Wand Tip Cleaning Tool,
Allen Key,
Cleaning Disc,
Cleaning Tablets,
Water Hardness Strip,
Drip Tray Guard,
Manual,
Knock Box 10,
Stainless Steel Milk Jug

Are these thing I could just buy separately? Is buying like this a stupid idea? Anyone bought similar before?

After many years with a Nespresso pod machine, it is time for an upgrade.

I've been looking at the Sage range for an all in one solution but decided against it and ordered a Profitec Go.

Now I must decide on a grinder, I was set on a Eureka Specialita but I'm also considering the DF64 v2. Which workflow would be better?

Both are good choices and will serve you well for a long time. The main thing you need to consider is how thourough you want to be when making a brew. The Eureka will let you just pour a bag in the top and do a timed grind to get roughly the weight you want each time you grind. The DF64 you have to weigh your input each time. I'm biased as I own the DF64V, but so far it has been absolutely brilliant.

Theres only a couple of places in the UK selling the DF64, I went with Sigma Coffee and they were amazing. Kept me up to date whenever I was asking about delivery dates (there was a 3 month waiting list at the time) and were truthful and realistic about dates. For a small business, I'd definately recommend them.

HX machine - was finding intermittent flow during brew, and then this week found that back-cleaning caused pump to lock-up(no noise)
now ordered a repair kit for the ulka pump - washer+ball+mushroom.
temporarily swapped in mushroom/flipped-washer and changed red body(are windings failing, even if pump not smoking) from original 15 year old pump,
into new 4 year old, also, wondered if I had not screwed mushroom in far enough for highest spring pressure.
seems better for now, & back-cleaning working, no leaks, will test with brew tonight.

cleaned tubing to pump out with piece of wool attached to fine wire - maybe you can get some real fine pipe-cleaners - but hole is probably less than 2mm dia.

I think the amount you have to invest in the beans themselves is as much part of the quality of drink outcome ... I know those £8-10 bags are nicer,
for which I'd be spending £250/year more (probably peanuts if you drink out in pubs / starbucks 'coffee' shop these days)

It's all about beans for me, I personally get a nicer brew using my old spice grinder and aero press with good beans than I do crap beans out my espresso machine and expensive grinder.

Beans are 70% of the final product from my experience.

I have a couple of fellow atmos. Can’t fault tbh. You need to keep them clean (e.g. coffee chaff) or the vacuum can be lost as it relies on the seal once you’ve removed the air.

Any thoughts on vacuum canisters or recommendations for good ones?

I am currently just storing my beans in the bag they arrive in

Thanks, how do the seals hold up over time (seen some negative reviews here). Will see if there is an AliExpress clone, like the Fuego scales :)

The seal is fine. What people notice or mistaken is that fresh beans give off gas so it will appear like the seal is broken. I have had mine for a few years now.

I've been without beanses for about a week and a half now and its hard. I wasn't drinking that much due to the warmer weather but I've certainly noticed a lack of energy at work in the early mornings. So I've ordered the following from Redber. Just need to wait for them to degas a bit when they arrive! :o

EL SALVADOR DIAMANTE (SHG) - Dark Roast Coffee - Dark chocolate, orange

KENYA KERICHO LOT 20 - Medium-Dark Roast Coffee - Sweet chocolate, mild citrus fruits

ok a kilo's not too bad @£15 - thought you'd linked them

haven't used the vacu-vin ones for 5 years or more, in the week it takes to drink a packet, I don;t think you gain anything,
also does depressuriuzation&evacuation cycle pull out co2 faster.

--------------

repair kit for pumps arrived, it improved pump, but it still stalled during back-flush so bought a new pump,
rather, a descale improved the situation more , and even though I don't use filtered water I wonder if there was some debris in the machine.

Will replace the (cosmetic) in tank filter which is old.

I bought two refurbs from the XS items store. A barista express which did me well for 4 years then the pump went. I then got the oracle touch and that's been working nicely for the last two years.

That's quite a lot missing, there's often some for only slightly more with most of the accessories.

Well I think I just ****ed my Lelit Mara. Been a while since a descale.

Couldn’t find the same descale as last time, so just got a Melitta branded one off Amazon. All just Citric right?

Descale went fine at first, water coming out the brew group was a little blue tinged, which was weird.

Then rinsed and refilled water tank. Water level warning just keeps going off and boiler doesn’t refill. On and off a few times, clean tank, nothing, just beeping.

Boiler is full of citric, can’t get it out as it won’t draw water.

Open the top of the machine, the hose Y connector has snapped. In fact it’s just totally perished and crumbled. I don’t know if they’re just old and given up as I’ve been moving the machine around, or the descaler is dodgy

Sat here with a boiler full of citric and no way to drain it.

It sounds like it will need stripping and remove the boiler....but I fear what damage the citric acid will be doing. Worst case scenario will need a new boiler.
