Silverstone Sugo SG05

I'm guessing that's with an 800FSB CPU. A max of 280 with reviewers would suggest that this board will only overclock with the default northbridge fsb strap for the CPU and doesn't automatically go to a higher strap once you hit a higher FSB. It certainly doesn't offer any option to choose a higher FSB strap anyway. That or the reviews in question had CPU's with pretty low FSB walls. Perhaps for such CPU's, a BSEL mod to 266FSB would allow for a higher top FSB.

Sounds feasible. I've seen reviews topping at FSB 370 or 400 without IGP. With a 200(800) FSB chip I'd be inclined to confirm it will reach 266 on default, then BSEL mod to 266 and see if it reaches 333 on default and if it does then BSEL mod to 333 and see whether it goes further.

Any chance of a 120mm rad at the front of this, internally? Id appreciate someone measuring the distance between motherboard edge and the front of the case, or if someone would be so good as to fit a rad into the empty case and photograph it that would be amazing.
I think I see space for a pump beside the psu

That is lovely, i'm really tempted to move over to a little dinky rig.

My current behemoth just doesn't get the useage anymore to justify its existance...

A SG05 with a Zotac ITX, GTX250 1GB and E8500 might just be the ticket. :D

after selling my cubit3 I'm looking at getting this case, but struggling to find one anywhere. I've found 2 sites that have it, but at prices reaching £100 in delivery for a mini-itx case I'll be waiting.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what the highest spec graphics/cpu combo you could go for using the stock PSU with a Zotac board/Optical Drive/1 x ssd?

/edit Ignore the 3.5" bit it only has two sata connectors :p

There is a possible solution to the two SATA connectors problem. There is a "Slim ODD SATA to USB 2.0 converter" (see http://www.shopaddonics.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=ADSSSAU2 which allows connecting a slim SATA optical drive to one of the internal USB ports. However, the shipping costs are way too high (imho), and I have been unable to find a UK distributor.

That's interesting - power supply permitting you could have two ssd's in raid, the optical drive and a large drive connected via esata for storage!

Looking at putting together a SFF PC for normal web/photo/music/light gaming, and have come up with the following, as a start:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB) - Retail £151.79
Zotac GeForce 9300-ITX WiFi Mini-ITX (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £125.34
Silverstone Sugo SG05B Mini-ITX Case - Black (300w PSU) £89.99
XFX ATI Radeon HD 4770 512MB PCI-Express - Retail (HD-477A-YDLC) £88.99
Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB 7200RPM SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (WD3200BEKT) £65.54
Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel (KHX6400D2LLk2/4G) £43.99
Samsung SN-S083A/BEBE DVD±RW SATA Notebook Rewriter Drive - OEM £26.99
Akasa SATA-2 60cm Blue UV Data Cable £4.59
Akasa Slimline Optical SATA Cable (AK-CB050) £3.99

Total Cost = £602.70 (inc VAT)

I'm assuming the Zotac comes with a SATA for connecting the optical drive, so only 1 90° SATAII for the hard drive.

Any suggestions? Thanks :)

Just a warning to you guys about RAM with this board. The maximum VDimm that can be applied is 2.1V.

Hi Guys,

I've been dithering about the SG05 for months now, I think this thread has tipped the balance and I'm going to order one. I already have a zotac 9300.

I'm very concerned about noise though, which is the reason i've been hanging off ordering the sg05. I'm using the system as a fileserver, torrent box and media player. I'm not fussed about overclocking. I don't even really care if there's a dvd drive in the sg05.

Could anyone give me more information about the noise level of the stock fan in the case and the psu? Also what about a cpu heatsink? I'm using the stock intel one atm, but debating the Scythe Shuriken Mul has fitted.

I also saw a thread on hardocp
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1414331
where someone had squeezed in a Coolermaster GeminII amazingly enough.
Presumably that monster wouldn't need any fans at all, what with the big fan in the front of the case, and the psu fan just above it.

edit - last page of that hardocp link now has another monster heatsink, which looks to be better aligned to allow airflow from the front case fan to blow between the heatsink fins. (the coolermaster one has some kind of metal plate at the end which would disrupt airflow i think)

i'm running an old core 2 duo 1.8 ghz that I had spare atm, with 4gb ram fwiw

The stock fan is a Globe S1202512L-3M, 36 dBA@1m at 12V, according to http://www.silentpcreview.com/article739-page5.html. It is certainly noisy at 12V, but becomes almost inaudible when undervolted to 7V. I am not happy with the airflow at 7V and will be replacing mine with a Scythe S-FLEX SFF21E (1200 RPM).

The cpu heatsink choice is more difficult. It is certainly tempting to try a Coolermaster GeminII or a Thermalright AXP-140, but the fact is that the cpu heatsink fan is supposed to be blowing some air through the MCP heatsink, and I am not sure that the airflow from the case fan will be sufficient to cool it down.

Upon closer inspection, it would seem that there is hardly any overhang at all :)
