Yeah - I got this PSU for dual 8800s & noise & five 12v rails, two for each graphics and one for cpu... was a bonus that it's modular

Can you tell me definitely if the Galaxy is noisy ? 1 person I know says his mate says it is very noisy even idle and screams when gaming...he has a well ventillated Thermaltake Armor. This is only 2nd hand info. Another person I actually know on another forum has their Galaxy 850w setup in an Antec 900 which is known for good cooling. Not using overly mad components...e6700, single 7900gtx etc.. And they also say it runs very very hot and noisy.

Im after a case that can fit a 120.2 rad into, but all is not lost i may still keep it.

The Galaxy is very quiet in my case, the only fan i hear is the northbridge

That's what I wanted to hear clone. Cheers.

Did you ever consider one of those premodded alphacool jobs. The stacker for example can be bought with a rad mounted with 3x120mm fans on top, all tubes installed, including pump.

No what ive done is got a swiftech radbox that mounts to the rear 120mm fan so that i can place the rad(120x2) at the outside rear of the case and use the predrilled hose cutouts to run the hose into the case.

Going to have green uv water installed when it`s done :D

Ditto... I've managed to quiet down the northbridge to 50% speed - but can still hear the beast!

I am half thinking of dropping one of my G80's and heading back to my Intel Bad Axe. That chipset fan on the 680i is driving me nuts, and you know it's going to fall over and die someday.

Clone - I see you are no longer running 2 G80's. Was it much of a drop down ?

Didnt even fit the second card :D sold it on MM :)
I may go back to my Abit max that was a really good board to overclock the conroe and it got heatsinks :)
Only thing is my board now has 2x16 pcie and the max has 2x8 but i bet i wouldnt know the difference while playing game`s.

Well my mate is in the same boat as me 2 months ago.
He has a Bad Axe or Bad Axe 2 and 1 G80. Silence. Now he wants to get an EVGA 680i and another G80. Running games at 1920. I am sure the SLI will help (it helped me somwhat), but in hindsight I think I would have saved the money, not bought the 2nd G80 or an 850w psu (stuck with my seasonic) all because of that damn annoying chipset fan on the 680i. Tried to explain it to him. But noise does not matter to some people.

That's a bit strong isn't it? Some years ago I started working for myself (as well as having a full-time 'proper' job) and I bought myself a Porsche Boxster 2.5. Within 3 weeks of my getting the car Porsche released the 2.7 version. All of a sudden, mine was no good. After a further couple of unhappy months I almost punched someone in a pub when they said 'Oh, so it's not the 2.7 then?' in the same voice they would have used to say 'You FAILURE!'. So I changed it. The very next day I went and ordered the same car in the same colour with the same options on but with the 2.7 engine. It cost me £6000 and 9 months on a waiting list to change the cars over but once I had, I felt much happier.

Now, I don't think I would do it again, but at the time it was my status symbol, and it was tarnished. So, whatever reason tastyweat has for changing his graphics cards, I'm quite happy to smile and offer to buy his old ones :p

Says it all

Ditto. I'm wide eyed with amazement. Give that money to charity if you're so eager to spend it. This is an UTTER & COMPLETE waste!!

Heh... only just saw this... it's my money and I can spend it on what I chose.

... when R600 gets release I'll more than likely be upgrading to that.

But the 8800 refresh will be out before then. Maybe upgrade to that first in SLI and if the R600 is faster when it comes out a little later, get 2 of those as well. And how come you don't have a QX6700 yet ? :D

clone - can you answer a question

can you measure the clearance around the top and bottom of the rear 120mm fan housing on your case. Am thinking of getting the Alphacool Coolanswer 3 with the Laing pump but it needs a small bit of clearance (2cm) around the fan housing for it to fit. Looks ok from pics I have seen, except maybe the clearance between the top of the fan and that support bar thing. Ta.

<edit>
Looking at this pic here there does not appear to be any clearance at all over the top of the 120mm fan housing for the TJ09. Hard to be sure though.

That will not fit inside the case, but it should fit on the outside rear 120mm and pass the hose into the case with the predrilled holes, also it very small bore hose will have trouble moving the heat.

If i was you build the kit yourself it should be cheaper and perform better, get a 120mm rad, some 1/2 hose, cpu block, res and pump, infact there are loads of secondhand parts going in the MM.

Talking of watercooling, got some of my bits today will post piccys when i get a chance,my plan is mad,120.2 mounted on a swiftech radbox and the rear of the case.

Looking forward to seeing pics. Am going down this route as I have no clue at all about water cooling and don't want to chance a diy yet. This solution seems decent enough. And WJA96 had it working on an Eclipse. Thanks for checking. It also looks like the Lian Li A10B wont take this. The 120mm fan sits too high. Lucky I cancelled my case order again :)

Forgot to ask..you have an EVGA 680i...you reckon that chipset heatsink will interfere with the Cool Answer 3.

What dimension are you checking the extra 20mm in? You only need 20mm on one side. You can rotate the radiator to get the 20mm oriented the way that fits the case, it's just that you need to unbolt it from the cage it sits in. The optimal way is to have the hot water going in the top and have the cold water coming out the bottom so generally you need the 20mm on the side opposite the motherboard. If you are prepared to rotate the radiator so that hot water goes in on the left side and out on the right then it will fit in almost any case.

You can check the clearance for yourself. Is the top of the fan higher than the edge of the exhaust 120mm fan? If it is, then it might foul the cage. If not, then it'll fit fine.

This argument about building your own kit from parts generally holds good, but in this case you are buying a Black Ice 120mm Radiator with a Papst (Alphacool labelled) fan, a Laing DDC Pump, 3/8ths tubing and an Alphacool NexXxos XP block which is potentially the weak point in the system, but even that is pretty good kit. This is all proper water cooling gear. What everyone gets snooty about is that Alphacool have bolted that lot together onto a mounting bracket and pre-filled and sealed it so that a monkey could fit it, and what's more, make a tidy job of it.

It seems like it will work fine on the Mirage with the EVGA mobo I think. I was concerned that it would not clear the top of the chipset heatsink.

Just looking at the Lian Li A10 though, it looks like it would be be difficult to attach the radiator in the ideal position as the rear 120mm fan is positioned higher then the back of the mobo tray.

<edit>I see what you are saying now about needing only 20mm extra on one side. I thought that the radiator was an extra 20mm wider then the top and bottom of the fan, so you needed clearance on both sides </edit>
