Silverstone TJ09B

Is it possible to run this fan off a mobo header and use your bios or something like speedfan to control the speed. Or does the fan draw so much power it really needs to run off the psu. 2100rpm at 21db sounds like complete bull doesn't it.

Well Lian Li have a lot of 120mm case fans with just 3 pin connectors so they are supposed to run off the mobo headers. Certainly fans in the 1000-1200rpm range have no problem doing that. Most of the ones OcUK sell as quiet fans certainly can run from the mobo headers too. However the Silverstone fans look a bit higher on the amps so for safety would probably need to run off the psu. The 2100rpm speed sort of hints at this I guess.

Any problems with resonating side panels ?

Sorry if I am harping on but 180 sterling is a lot to spend on a case and I am trying to decide on the TJ09 or A10B.

I have a windowed TJ06B which im over the moon with screw less system but that TJ09 has some nice features with the HD`s bays & fan options, but as some have pointed out the side ports could have been better maybe if they had put a flush side grill to hide them.
The built quality is second to none in my opinion but you have to pay for it :)

I have tryed to remove that fan also,by the looks of things you have to unscrew the had section and remove it from the pc,or if you have a screwdriver that has a ubend, take out the two top and bottom shroud screws maybe, got to buy me some allen key to take the front panel off.

Instructions on how to remove the fan. A real pain in the ass. You need a narrow mangetic tip screwdriver to remove the 4 long screws that hold the fan housing to the hdd cage. Difficult to see these screws. Once the fan housing is out, you have to remove 4 more screws on the top and bottom of the cage, then another 4 screws to take the fan out of the cage !!

Is the middle fan that noisy by the way ? Maybe get a 4pin to 3pin extension lead and hook it up to a fan controller is the best bet, or just 7v or 5v mod the fan.

Done mine the hard way, removed the front hd cage top and bottom, front panel e.t.c,never again.

Sounds tricky.

So I take it the silverstone fans are pretty loud then.

<edit>How come you are getting rid of your quad then > </edit>

I am still farting around looking for a case.
Would you say modding that fan to 7v would be the best thing if you don't need 3pin control. Just couldn't see myself trying to remove that fan for fear of making a mess of things which I am sure I would.

Flanno - you're not going to get anything significantly better than your Mirage I'm afraid unless you REALLY like the looks of the TJ-09. I also think that the difficulty in disassembling the middle fan is not a good reason not to buy a TJ-09. In comparison to removing the motherboard to replace the CPU cooler it's really pretty straightforward.

I thought that with my P180 too but broke loads of clips :)
But yeah...it wouldn't stop me, except I am a klutz and break stuff easily.

It's back down to considering the TJ09 again. I really really like the look of it and as long as cooling is close to the Mirage I will be happy.

I found someplace that has the TJ09 without the window which is what I prefer. I hate windows in cases because the first wipe with a microfibre cloth and you still end up with swirl lines in the acrylic which cathodes show up.

Anyway - what I would plan to do it mount 2 ultra quiet 800rpm Noctua fans in the top 120mm exhausts, and 1200rpm Noctuas everywhere else. They are now my latest in my ever expanding list of fans, and I have to say I agree with spcr and reckon they just pip out the Nexus and Scythe SFlex with more airflow per rpm.

By the way - did you get to the bottom of the panel resonating issue ?

One last thing - I usually assemble my Tuniq on the mobo and then mount it on the mobo tray. I find if I put the mobo on the tray first and then mount the tuniq (like most people do I guess) my awkward hands can't turn the inside thumbscrews enough over the back of the mobo tray getting in the way. The tray on the TJ09 looks massive, so do you reckon I will be able to just drop the mobo with the Tuniq preinstalled onto the tray while it is inside the case. Reason I ask is I seem to remember a post where someone said the side supports have to come off if you want to slide the mobo tray in with the tuniq mounted.

I think the words P180 and clips cover that with no further comment from me.

Yes, you can just drop the motherboard in, there is loads of room in there. The TJ09B that we have is now cooled with a reserator but there were no resonance issues at 7V apparently.

[Edit]The guy who currently has the case says the middle fan is an "illegitimate child" to remove and to allow a good hour to do it carefully.[/Edit]

Yes you have to take the case screws out but depends on what whay you face your tower on the board,up/down|=no no side to side --- = yes :D

Middle fan is very important as it blows cols air to the videocard.
You need anymore piccys just ask m8.

Heheh...that's why I mentioned the P180 :) I know how you feel about it from past threads.

Hmm...1 hour to remove...well there is noway I will attempt it. That translates into 3 hours for me, and probably scratching lots of stuff, threrading screws etc... Maybe I will 7v it instead :)

Glad to hear you have no resonance problems now.
I take it you are using something else for your "entertainment" rig.

Yeah...would llike to see some pics now of your finished setup with cable management.

I will be facing my tuniq tower so it is pointing towards the back of the case. Basically exhausing towards the rear fan. So can I not mount the tuniq this way on the mobo and sort of drop it down into the tray at an angle while the tray is still in the case.

thanks

My case hasnt changed from the first set of pictures,no had the time to do much what with xmas :)

If you are going to vent out the back fan then you will need to remove the back 4 per side screws, like ive said it will only take you a few mins to do, and i think this is the best setup with the tower in this case.

And does this stay off permanently ?

Can you show me a pic again of what you are talking about. sorry if I am slow on the uptake.
