I've been sim racing for years and I am still running a keyboard and mouse.

That said I am still planning to upgrade to a full motion rig at some point in the future!

tbh since master system days ive use controller, if not earlier, i only bought my first wheel in sept 24, and makes a huge difference immersion wise, pedals are the biggest upgrade, especially loadcell.

Hoping fanatec has some new tricks up their sleeve this year; podium ps4 base with club sport v3 pedals but fancy a change…just don’t fancy changing eco system!!

Recently not been using my G29 much, as it was getting a bit annoying with just how loud it was.
I saw a video recently about a part replacing the plastic bracket the gear/column go through. It’s on aliexpress as an "aluminum alloy bracket bearing seat", but I’d just picked it up on Taobao. Installed today, with a clean and silicone grease on the gears/plastic, and It’s made a good amount of difference in a quick blast of AMS2.
Obviously it’s a G29, so impossible to be properly quiet, but it’s a positive change and feels a bit better for it.

Also changed the clutch, throttle and brake springs for a different set from taobao, and swapped that garbage rubber out for a yellow looking plug that rotates into the brake spring. You also swap the sealing plug for a smaller one, and add some o-rings to seal it better. I liked the warning on the back of instructions, mentioning how heavy the pedals will feel then says "if you are a novice player we recommend you do not install the sealing ring and screws when refitting the pedal for the first time". :D
This warning was ignored, and the pedals feel so much better now, just more resistance to pressing the pedals. Unfortunately I did my knee in yesterday at work, so can’t be pretend racing today. :(

All-in, I was about £34 for all these parts, but it took a good while to dismantle the rig then the wheel, and put it all back together. A lot of crazy set-ups in here, but my ancient G29 trundles on and is good enough for my talentless-self. It’s been a good cheap bit of fun, using a very cheap metal frame and race seat.
If anyone else is still using a G29 and it’s getting on a bit in years, I definitely recommend greasing the internal parts, and doing something with the pedal springs.

Next-up to see if there’s any cheap solid mods to the shifter.

Yea I’ve been running a G29 for years. Fitted a MVH Studios wheel during lockdown, and a AXC TrueBrake mod sometime later. Often considered upgrading to something ‘better’, but in reality it wouldn’t make me any faster.

New season on iRacing means the start of the special events. Roar before the 24 this weekend, the Daytona 24hr next weekend then Bathurst and Sebring 12hrs not far away either. Exciting times.

i dont know if correct, as never played it due to fact many were/are saying its pretty much pay to win? what is the actual take on this, and graphically it doesnt look great against the likes of ACC i think

have been toying with LMU, but only one free GT3 car is a bit poor. AMS2 i havent really looked at if im honest. might have to have a nose at some races via yt

Not pay to win but as said above, its pay to keep playing.

The December sale is still the only time people should be renewing/extending their subscription. It saves a good chunk of monies.

As for cars and track purchases? Be wise with your buys. I bought the Ferrari 499P, Motegi and Porsche Cup this month (I buy in bundles of 3 as it gets you a discount). Previous to this I hadn't bought any content since summer last year (A few GT3s that I didn't need to buy). Unless you've got to buy all the new stuff all of the time, once you've bought a reasonable amount, your purchases are gonna be few and far between imo.

As for looks? It doesn't look as good as the latest titles but I think it looks pretty decent tbh.

but still way more than once paid for.. zero to keep playing.. and it's not like it's a "much" better game?!? think i'll stick to AMS2 for now..

You're paying for the service. The service is top tier imo.

No other sim comes close to the range/availability/frequency of races though. Nobody comes close.

If you want to play with randoms, then yes i'd agree.. but we have a good group in our little OCUK group.. and it's just more about the laughs than it is serious racing, which I imagine a lot of randoms expecially if they "pay to play" are expecting.
