Sim racers - what are you running?

Edit, posted my question in it's own thread :)
I think if I was in the market for a headset to use purely for sim racing I'd go down the ear plug route instead. Dunno about you but during long races things can get pretty warm and sweaty. I find my headset (The Steelseries Arctis pro Wireless) does contribute to this warming effect.

I don't think Steelseries make bad headsets tbh. The reason your link above is so expensive is because the Arctis Pro wireless have been discontinued and replaced with their new Nova lineup. They do traditionally do very good sales throughout the year (I think I paid around £200 for my Arctis Pro Wireless).

I dunno if I'd want leather ear cups tbh. I had them on my old Astro A50s and found myself getting sweaty ears just wearing them watching Youtube videos and the like.

This weekend on the rig....

Drilled my pedal plate and bolted the shaker on.
Bought a sim-lab heel riser, much better for the brake.
Cut some rubber in an attempt to isolate to the shakes.....failed.

I grabbed a spare Logitech 432 headset from work. They are approx £75 and review "average". I'm going to run them for a while to give me a baseline to compare a steelseries to if I jump on one.

Racing wise. Summit Point Raceway....I'm getting put in the top / 2nd split most races. 2k SOF. It's intense. I can drive in the 54s with optimal of a high 53. My IR continues to climb but my SR is falling off a cliff. 4.1 now down from 4.98! I've decided to drive the Vormula Vee as well. It's like a lawnmover by great fun. Hopefully it's a little more relaxed and I can regain some of my lost SR.

2.0k SOF (For me) is where it is the most competitive. Managed to win the IMSA race in my GT3 BMW on Friday night (pretty much from lights to flag). However prior to that I was doing the same in the earlier race before getting LMP'd 2/3rds of the way through the race. Done another one this morning (IMSA race at The 'Ring GP) with a little less success but an absolute battle all the way though. 2nd to last lap:

Did it end well I hear you say? It did. Managed to come home 5th. If all races are as fun as that one I couldn't care less if I finished 25th.

As for my wee rig? I finally procured myself a keyboard tray/arm and mouse table/plate thingy. Sooo much better than sitting them on my lap. I'd take a pic but the room isn't as tidy as it was when I did my setup photos a couple of weeks ago. Now is a little too "lived in" for pics :D

I think they are really good. I had limited time on the Sprints and also not a great driver... :)

I've set this brakle up to be much firmer, i'm noticing in races that under the big braking zones 4th > 1st for example I can really close in on people down to the apex.

My SR and iR have taken a beating this past week. I've had some industrial levels of swearing in the rig. Luckily the MX5s are now at Oulton Park - Fosters. I'm much better at this track and it's easier to stay of of trouble. Hopefully we have a more positive week.

I have a question for you racers (from a newbie)

I did have a wheel , but it was so noisy (force feedback) the noise off my desk and through the floorboards was far too much and had to get rid of it

what are they like these days ? can you use a wheel in "silent mode" ? i know there are various types of workings in them, some belt driven etc
can some of them be quite ?

From my research id be inclined to get a Thrustmaster T300 to start with (if that can be clamped to a desk?) but im worried about the noise factor

i have a t300 shi, wheel and pedals are mounted to a next level base, when it was in the house I used to get moaned at ;) stomping on the pedals (I didn't think I was being noisy either :D ) The Wheel itself is reasonably quiet apart from when you plug it in and it rotates and centres.
