Sim racers - what are you running?

Do any of you have suggestions for wheel quickreleases. I think I've read the simagic ones are decent for the money. Its for a SC2 Pro and GSI FPE.

If you are going to be swapping out wheels a lot, an NRG Q/R, B-G racing (If you have big bucks) or a good quality clone, just be careful with cheap knock offs though as they dont use decent quality metal and will eventually develop play/slop, this style of Q/R is the only type I'd run these days. I've had no end of drama with spline type and I cant be ****** messing about with those awkward bicycle style Q/R levers.
If you dont swap wheels often rev off the Q/R get a spacer to suit your required length and hard mount.

Any thoughts on Moza vs Fanatec for a wheel, wheelbase and pedals? Budget £700 max

Stories of poor Fanatec customer service is scaring me off them. Moza is prob more expensive and eco system less mature but it's more widely available.

Faced with that choice i'd go for Moza.

I've got a wheel base, wheel and pedals from three different companes. I don't think you need to stick to one supplier.

edit: and a shifter from a 4th :-)

Yes, for pc use only. Currently using a Logitech G920 and goofing around in Forza Horizon 4 but ready to explore a sim title with better hardware.

Their for the tip, will look into SimMagic.

Moza make decent stuff, not the flashiest or feature rich, but perfectly functional Entry/mid level parts and will give you a solid baseline to work with. I've had the R5 and currently use the R21, also the handbrake. A lot of reviewers have mentioned that the Moza software is falling behind a bit compared to competitors, but that dosnt mean it sucks, its regularly updated, just that the competition at the entry/mid level DD market is just so strong at the moment you can afford to be selective and the Moza software leaves a bit too much in the way of settings to the user. Better baseline settings would do Moza a huge favor.
One thing that lets them down compared to competitors is the pedals, Whilst not bad in any particular way. they dont quite stack up compared to what others offer. I was using the SRP Loadcell three pedal set, whilst perfectly functional, they were always a bit too soft and spongey for my liking.

As for Fanatec stuff. I've never really understood the draw, they do decent stuff and I suppose if you are requiring Console compatibility its one of the few options. However, I've always seem them as overpriced, with long lead times and shoddy CS. They were market leaders for innovation and bringing the technology in a nice package to the mass market but I dont think time has done them well, I dont think they ever recovered from the COVID boom and there are just too many other good options these days to continue to neglect customer support.

Simagic stuff is really taking off, they are the hot product at the moment. Though I very very much doubt you'll get a full base/wheel/pedal setup for under £700 unless you are very lucky finding a deal used.

One thing you havnt mentioned though is how you are mounting this? Is it cockpit mounted or desk mounted? if desk you might have trouble with higher torque wheelbases. Also if you are desk mounting you have to consider some way of hard mounting pedals to some sort wood or something otherwise a Loadcell pedal set will just move around too much when playing if you are just sitting them on the floor.

Thanks for taking the time to share that info and first hand experience. A quick look at the SimMagic prices and yeah, they seem to be out of my budget. I started with a budget of £500 and I have to draw the line somewhere.

I just got a second hand GT Omega Titan with Sparco seat. Really pleased with it although have only sat it in once :)

Bit of a long shot that anyone here would have a solution. However, I am running a Moza R21 (V1) and I'm looking for a solution to add a 80mm-100mm wheel hub spacer, as ideally I'd like to mount the wheel base back a bit whilst keeping the wheel position where it is .
The main issue being Moza looks like it uses a non-standard 60mm PCD, compared to the industry standard 70mm/74mm PCD.
Is anyone aware of any off the shelf aftermarket solutions before I look at alternatives?

At the moment my main train of thought it getting a local CNC shop to prototype a 80/100mm x 60mm PCD shaft extension and extend the current cable. Though I havnt had any quotes I feel this is potentially expensive and risky as I'll be supplying all measurements/drawings. The other solution I have considered is fitting a standard 70mm PCD extension to the wheel side inbetween the Q/R and the steering wheel hub/button box, and just extent the cable slightly.
Though I'd prefer to find a solution that keeps the spacer attached to the direct drive base shaft as it means I wont require a spacer for every wheel rim, it would be a minor annoyance and a bit pricey but it may be the simplest solution at this rate.
Whilst I'm on the market for a new GT wheel rim, which will likely be USB cabled in. I'd also like to retain Moza ecosystem wheel compatibility as I'll still use the C2 V2 wheel for rally. I believe power is supplied through the hub connector with data being sent wireless to the wheelbase on my setup R21 v1/CS v2.

I am aware that Moza do have options but neither are suitable. The newly released Moza shaft extension states its only compatible with the V2 R21 (Has anyone verified this?) its also a little longer than desired, though I could work with that if it retains functionality. I've emailed Moza for clarification on the matter but if it was like last time it'll take 2 weeks to get a reply.
The old style extension shaft is far too long (200mm), whilst I could possibly make it work, it looks hideous and practically impossible to find availability as well as it has apparently been discontinued.

Just a heads up for anyone looking at buying TrakRacer swivel keyboard tray/desk, i'd suggest finding another solution, unless its going to live its life mostly in the same position. I use my rig daily for both driving and general gaming use. I've had this thing for maybe 5+ months now, its swung in and out multiple times a day and its trash now. Pivot points always need tightening, the swivels are made of cheese and bolts and washers are chewed up to hell. I try not to over tighten things however if you dont nip bolts up reasonably tight its a wobbly mess of a keyboard tray. Its just not held up to the test of time. I had my doubts when I put it together, but I didnt think it would be this bad, this quick. Maybe I'm just asking too much of it? I dunno...
Either way, I'm done with this keyboard tray! I'm on the hunt now for a more robust solution. If anyone is aware of something else on the market? Even if its a similar design with better quality materials. Any solution must allow use of KB/M as shown below, must pivot at multiple points to allow use in both traditional desk style and functional when swung out of the way when I'm driving.

Currently looking at something like this, or something similar. As long as it dosnt use those crappy chinesium pivots that a lot of rig manufacturers like to use.

That single pivot point dosnt work for me. I need for it to be able to swing infront of me to use as a "desk". I certainly wont be buying TR again, the profile sections are fine as is the actual desk piece but all other metals are made of cheese. I had the older style of Simlabs trays on my old setup and the pivot point was the same crappy soft aluminium that ended up getting chewed up, and I'll be honest I wasnt that impressed. I get that any keyboard/mouse desk setup on a simrig is going to be a compromise. However I'm surprised there isnt a more robust option on the market. Clearly there is a gap in the market!

I'm doing things on the cheap where controllers are concerned, I've got a Thrustmaster T150 (£90 from eBay) steering wheel and a T-Flight X HOTAS.

But a couple of years ago I backed this Kickstarter for a motion simulator to the tune of around 2 grand:

I'd saved up enough cash to buy the first motion simulator that they released and was literally about to press the trigger when either Chas or Cary on YouTube broke the news of the Kickstarter for the Yaw2.

So I took the risk and backed it.

They were hit pretty hard by the COVID-19 lockdowns, the crazy rise in shipping costs following that, and hit especially hard by the war in Ukraine (because they were originally planning to get all of the metal parts from Russia for peanuts!), so they had to stop shipping to backers because they were losing money on each unit sent to backers.

But now they've got their finances sorted out and I reckon that they're going to start shipping to backers again in February or March.

I normally spend a great deal of time in Elite Dangerous in VR, but I'm not going to play it again until I get my motion simulator.

I'm also going to start a new game, I want a motion sim experience right from the start of the game!
