Seems a real shame really, cos theres a lot of things i really like about where they've gone with it, but theres also a lot of things they've taken away which people expect having been there from the beginning.
Thankfully i preordered mine while making a 10sec round-trip to India and just happened to get it for 1/4 of the price
and while it'll still be disappointing, hopefully it wont be a complete waste of time & money.
wilber - from what i can understand, your 'world' will either be private, shared private (approved friends) and possibly public. but you'll still be able to play the game privately and aside from their DRM measures i dont see why you wouldnt be able to place in isolation if you wanted to, although mods may be different. Perhaps enabling mods will disable your interactivity with the community leaderboards, so you could exploit things if you so wished, but only in your world and you couldnt interact with others to sell it or top the leaderboard. Think its safe to say thats too obvious, and you'll be closer, but fingers crossed.
What concerns me is these limited global resources, are they regenerative, or is there say 1m units of coal & oil etc and then what? sure some thing could be replaced by renewable energy, but something tells me thats not realy the answer.
They also seem to have an extra page on the US version of the site:
http://www.simcity.com/en_US/game/info/simcity-world
http://eaassets-a.akamaihd.net/www....4299481/sites/default/files/GlobalMarkets.jpg (its a biiiig pic, 6k x 3k res)
dirty energy can be replaced with renewable energy, but how do you replace electronics? is that going to be something thats a limited resource, or is it just things like oil & coal, and you can buy them from other people if you wish, or use alternative power to solve the problem.
If your just buying from the marketplace because you have a demand for it then thats fine, but doing so because you've ran out and theres no alternative, then thats just game destroying, and people will just create new cities to pillage it of resources then regenerate it i'd imagine.
Im still quite excited about it, i've played them all, and while this one seems to be a bit smarter in how its done, and yet dumber in how the user is treated and seems overly simplified and user friendly (aka dumbed down), it still excites me, i just hope the core gameplay isnt dumbed down, its just made user friendly... but trusting EA is a tough job, and im not really one to get down on them and blame them for everything thats wrong with gaming like many.
