Simmers rejoice! DCS: Black Shark, Russian release date

hey, you can do what you want ;)

It just seems a bit like cutting off your nose to spite your face, is all.

How is refusing to install software that has previously caused me issues anything like cutting off my nose despite my face? Starforce caused me issues, I'm not in a hurry to repeat that regardless of how their software has changed, once burnt, twice shy as they say.

Black Shark is one sim out of many due for release, I can live without it and so will others I suspect.

Unfortunately the DCS is aiming to be the be and all and end all simulator. Black Shark is merely the first step. It is also unfortunate that the developers are almost forced to use Star Force because they are so small that they must take every possible option to ensure revenue is revenue, and not lost to piracy.

DCS is already used, under it's pseudonym of The Battle Simulator, by several forces around the globe already.

but it doesn't work
ever.
name me ONE game that has never been cracked!

LockOn v1.1x :p

and I didn't say it'd be fool proof, they are just taking every possible option - no one has (at least publically) cracked LockOn v1.1x (yet) so it is obviously just raising the effort vs reward bar too high for the community to bother hacking it.

I've been looking forward to this game for some time. Probably the only game in the forseeable future that I will actually be buying.

Why would they bother when Flaming Cliffs has been?

You're obviously seeing something in his comments that I'm not.
They are making it more difficult to crack. If there was no protection, ala IL2, then anyone can crack it, and little money will be made from it. If it has some protection, then only those who know how to break it can crack it. If it's got as much protection as is possible, then even fewer people can crack it. Just because something is crackable, doesn't mean it is easy to do so, and doesn't mean everyone is going to hold back and not purchase/play the game whilst they wait for a crack. They are trying to minimise the amount of loss due to piracy. I didn't say eradicate it.

The *only* people who have issues with Starforce are those who pirate media in one form or another, anyway.

So... you're saying that anyone who owns a dvd writer is a pirate at heart who deserves to have his rig crashed by invasive 'copy-protection' for daring to own hardware that 'could' be used for illegal purposes?

Yes but my point was that why would anybody bother cracking Lockon1.1 when Flaming Cliffs is out and cracked, the only reason 1.1 was never cracked at the time is probably due to it being a niche product and the fact that 1.0 was out and cracked.

As for slowing down pirating, I don't believe it does, especially in regards to a product such as this which is going to be mainly used by computer literate users who will in the main have the ability to use a cracked version, now that may be a big generalisation but it's no worse than yours:

The Download version of Lock On:Flamming Cliffs and BS use a type of copy protection that has nothing to do with CD or DVD Drives, I fail to see what the fuss is about?

Nate

Because it is Starforce, they were arrogant and denied any issues with their software even when it was shown to be at fault, regardless of how good their software may or may not be currently I and many others will never allow it on our systems again.

It is dissapointing in the least to see Eagle Dynamics chose SF over other copy protection systems when they knew it would cause this reaction, even UbiSoft got the message and has since stayed well clear of SF.
